I just purchased a after market extended life battery on line. The battery fits and works fine BUT my facinate wont charge the battery and a message comes up on screen saying the battery is not compatable. Does anyone know why this happens or what the fix is?

If I could venture a guess...

Did you buy a samsung branded battery? http://www.verizonwireless.com/extended-battery-2200-mah-includes-battery-door-1.shtml

I'm sure both Samsung and Verizon will tell you the phone and they only supports OEM batteries.

batteries contain chips, the phone wont let a battery it deems not proper cahrge.

or maybe there is no chip, and this throws up a flag

did the seller garunatee it would work?

you may want to contact the seller to see if its a known issue.

hopefully its a reputable seller and just a bad battery and they will exchange it

Aftermarket batteries are not suggested for use with this product.  Read that when I first got the phone.  You'd be better off either buying the extended life battery from Verizon or Samsung or seeing if you can get a replacement battery under the one year warranty?   Using non-branded batteries could additionally cause issue with your phone as well as not charging properly.  If your phone gets damaged, there may be no warranty protection due to improper component use.  Just FYI

One note for those interested in purchasing battery from verizon, every so often verizon offers a discount and the code for a new battery at 30% off is bat30
