All Apps - even ones that aren't open - Keep Crashing

I have been getting "app stopped working" notifications for the last few hours - even on apps that aren't open, or open in the background. Around 20 notifications, and when I try to check messages in the Message+app, it closes after thinking about it.

Updates are up to date. This hasn't happened before, so I'm not sure where to go from here. It's a Samsung Galaxy S7.

I have a S20FE5g and all of a sudden several apps stopped.  The one that is still a problem is my Email.  I uninstalled two of the apps and reinstalled and for the moment they are now opening.  But the email - I don't want to mess with.  Keep getting a flash notice that email stopped working but it never stays on long enough for me to know what to do.  Ugh!

I'm having the same issue.  I updated to 11 yesterday and then about an HR ago, random apps just won't open.  Both email clients and of all apps, my 24 fitness app.  Sounds like this update is riddled with issues.  Did they not follow a QC process?

Some gaming apps will not open (solataire, wordscape). Tried restarting but didn't fix problem. Problem started when I was playing wordscapes and game froze. I have a Motorola One 5G that is running Android 10.

Hello, Sunny50. We're very sorry to hear about the unexpected issue that has come up with your Motorola One 5G device not opening certain apps on your device. We definitely want to make sure that this is resolved for you so that all of your applications are working correctly. This issue has been identified as a known issue by Google for Android devices and they have found a resolution to this known issue. This can be resolved by ensuring that Android System WebView and Google Chrome are both updated, and when that is completed, to power your device off and back on. This can be done by visiting the Google Play Store, search for Android System WebView, select the "Update" option, repeat these steps for Google Chrome, and power your Motorola One 5G device off and back on so that it can refresh. Once it is powered back on, please let us know if the issue where certain applications that you have close on their own continues. Thank you. Brett A_VZW

Have you been able to read the notice about the apps not working?  Mine flashes so quickly I can't read it.

Hello, lyale15c. We're very sorry for the unexpected issue that has come up with certain applications not opening correctly and closing on their own. We see that Google has recognized this as a known issue with Android devices and they have found a resolution. What we want to do to get this resolved is to update Android System WebView and Google Chrome from within the Google Play Store app and power your device off and back on. This can be done by visiting the Google Play Store app, search for Android System WebView, select the "Update" option, repeat these steps for Google Chrome, and then power your device off and back on. Please let us know if the issue is continuing when your device powers back on. Thank you.  BrettA_VZW

We are here to help, it is imperative for your device to work correctly at all times. We've noticed a few Android users reporting similar issues with the apps force closing during the last few days. I included some troubleshooting steps that will get your phone up and running.

  • Open the Play Store app
  • Search for Google Chrome
  • Select Update
  • Repeat these steps to update the Android System WebView app and then restart your device

Additional steps may be required if the issue continues:

  • Open your phone’s settings app
  • Tap Apps & notifications > Google Play Store > Storage & cache > Clear data
    • Please note that doing this will clear some of your Play Store settings like parental controls, auto-update preferences, etc.
    • Please recheck these settings after following these steps.
  • Repeat the steps above to update WebView and Chrome.

Let us know if this helps.

Samsung S10 doing the same thing . Done all the troubleshooting shy of a  factory reset. Has anyone been able to get any info for  possible reason for this issue?

I had the same problem starting yesterday evening, 3/22/21, on my Galaxy S7 Edge.  After extensive research had found, like another suggested, that it is a Google issue.

Mine is now okay!!  Everything is working!!!  Just did this update about 10 minutes ago.

After allowing updates to Android Apps, according to Google Support...

Update your Android apps - Google Play Help

Update individual Android apps automatically

To set up updates for individual apps on your device:

  1. Open the Google Play Store app
  2. Tap Menu

     My apps & games.

  3. Select the app you want to update.
  4. Tap More
  5. Tap Enable auto update.

The app will update automatically when updates are available. To turn off automatic updates, uncheck the box.

I updated everything and it was still jacked up. I had the same issue. Give this a shot as it worked for me.

quecera, we apologize for the issues you are having with your apps. We are aware of the issue and Google has just released a fix for the issue, Tess. Please try these steps: 1. Navigate to Play Store app 2. Search for Android System WebView (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.webview) 3. Select the "Update" option 4. Repeat these steps for Google Chrome (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.android.chrome) Let me know if this resolves the issue.
