I continually get the notification the update is ready to download everytime the phone wakes up and I just click it off.
1. After a period of time will this update just install itself on my phone on its own?
2. Do I have a choice in this matter?
3. Is there a setting I can select to stop this update from installing if it does automatically install after a short period of time?
I do not want this update on my phone until Samsung figures out the problems.

Klue,
New updates are supposed to be a sweet treat, not cause headaches. So let's go over this together. Now, this is an update that you will need to install manually. The notification will continue to appear until your phone is updated because performance of the device can only be optimized when it has the most up to date software. And regarding any issues that may concern you with the new software, please know that our support team is always here for you.

I also would like an answer to this question, although my notification says that it's been downloaded and is ready for installation. It shows up around every 3-5 minutes or so. It will sometimes pop up while I'm in the middle of doing something else and I'm afraid I'll click the "install now" by mistake and join those unlucky ones who have problems.
As I now have two GS4s (and the message pops up on both of them with annoying frequency), how can I stop this?

I agree that they should be sweet treats, however this S4 forum is full of headaches after installing the 4.3 update. It should be a choice of the phone owner what gets installed and not have to put up with notifications about pending installs if you don't want it. My other question is how to get rid of the update notification so it doesn't flash after every wakeup.

Other than the one issue I had, the update works fine for me on the S4. My issue has since been fixed.

I have been pretty lucky with updates is the past, but having doubts if the trend will continue after all the problems others have been saddled with. I posted another thread on a what if kind of thing.

Just update it. If you know what you are doing, you can deal with any issues that pop up. I did and I am learning about the changes in the latest updated device I have and it getting KitKat.

I decided to take that route, downloaded the update, and told it to install ... got an error message that it couldn't install and gave me the option to download again ... I chose 'no thanks' and haven't seen the update notice since.

That to me suggests, Verizon Wireless might have pulled the update after all. If it was still available, it would have started to download again.

I thought the same thing initially, but it DID start to download again, or at least it tried to. I got a pop-up asking if I wanted to go ahead and download with the choices 'no thanks', 'now', 'later' (or something along those lines). I chose 'no thanks'.

wi-fi; I don't do updates (OS or app) over a cellular connection.

Like you, I didn't want to do this update. Unfortunately, the update started on its own, and I couldn't stop it. Based on the other complaints I've read on the VZW Community, I've been very lucky. I have had none of the problems that other S4 users have described.

What I dont like is that my S4 does not turn on anymore and I have to get a replacement phone. That's all.
