Annual Upgrade Program Ending For S7/S7 Edge

According to Verizon website, annual upgrade program ending for Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge today. Starting tomorrow, these phones (or any other Android phone, as far as I can tell) will no longer be eligible for annual upgrade. Is this true and why hasn't Verizon publicized this important policy change? Pretty much every other US carrier provides a mechanism to upgrade many of their phones (not just 2 iPhone models) annually. This seems like a big step backward for Verizon. Unless, this is a way of introducing a new program which includes all phones, like the original version of Edge.

verizon provides the choice at 1 year, if you pay off what's owed on the phone.

This is directly from the FAQ's from the Samsung Annual Upgrade Program:

Samsung S7 and Samsung S7 edge, purchased on a device payment agreement on or before 9/10/2016 are eligible for the Annual Upgrade program.
The Annual Upgrade program will no longer be available for Samsung S7 and Samsung S7 edge purchased on or after 9/11/2016.

Sure sounds to me that customers will not be able to upgrade at one year unless they pay out the complete remaining bill (not just reach 50%).

This is not an "important policy change". It just simply no part of this program. Why do people expect major news and media reports for a sale of a phone is beyond me.

I'm not sure you understand the Edge program (or its successor the annual upgrade program). You could upgrade to a new phone anytime after paying off 50% (and turning in the phone at that point). What does it mean that "verizon provides the choice at 1 year, if you pay off what's owed on the phone."? Really? Of course you can. You don't have to do it at one year. You can do that at one day (or actually when you purchase the phone). That's called paying the entire cost and then owning the phone. The annual upgrade program let you get a new phone every year without paying the entire amount. Maybe it's not such a big deal to you, but it must be a big deal for someone if all 4 US carriers have an iPhone program that lets you do that and Apple has their own program. And all 3 other US carriers let you do it with Samsung and, in the case of ATT and T-Mobile, all other phones.

Look at this way (unless Verizon is planning on coming out with a new program, which could be the case). Now it will cost you about $800 if you get the Galaxy S7 edge and want to get the Galaxy S8 edge (or whatever that call it) next year; it used to only cost you $400. I can see that driving people either to iPhones (where annual upgrades seem very popular) or to other carriers. As far as I can tell, all Verizon offers to Android buyers are to purchase the phone outright or to get either a 2 year service contract or a 2 year phone contract. A one year "lease" is no longer an option.

You could very well take said phone after a year and recoup your loses by selling the phone and making most if not 50% back. I find it quite amazing how there's this small percentage of users who have an issue with Verizon and their policies.If that's the case, vote with your wallet and bounce

Once again, pherson trots out the "love it or leave it" argument. And here I thought a forum was a discussion of different opinions and ideas. Did it ever occur to you that Verizon could, maybe even once or twice, make a bad business decision? Or that feedback from us "small percentage" could be valuable and help them improve their service? Guess not. Sorry for not toeing the pherson "Verizon can do no wrong" line. How could I be so blind?

I'm not sure why you are. It either is or isn't. And that's what a forum is, my opinions and ideas are different from yours. So, what's the issue in the grand scheme of things? I mean that's what YOU said, right?

I'm not sure what your question is. Do you already have a Galaxy S7/S7 Edge purchased BEFORE 9/11? If so, you would STILL be able to upgrade after paying off only half of the device balance. Whether or not the new phone you upgrade to will be eligible for a similar program is yet to be seen.

If you were to NOW purchase a Galaxy S7/S7 Edge, THOSE phones would not be eligible as they were purchased ON OR AFTER 9/11.

The issue is with the Note 7 issue and vzw encouraging the S7 Edge as a replacement option .. many of those who take that option will not realize the samsung annual program has expired locking in those mis informed they are locked in for 24 mos meaning their next phone may be the Note 9 in sept 2018.

To the point of the original discussion .. vzw needs to be sure that future S7 and S7 Edge owners who purchase after Sept 10th know they are locked in and Samsung Annual Replacement program has expired.

The point is not whether someone who doesn't like it should take their business elsewhere.
