Big Red may have the least dropped calls but they continue to drop the ball on customer service. 1st T-Mobil then AT&T get froyo and still no verizon. I imagine Sprint will be next in then a few of the no name brand cell companies and Finally Verizon. Thanks again Verizon. I feel so special.
I think Verizons customer service is going to spiral downward at an accelerated rate. They already had the attitude that they have the best coverage therefore thinking no one will go anywhere, and now they have the iphone to. I guess their attitude is sit back and collect money and do not put any effort into customer satisfaction. We have already accepted that the prices are considerably higher and that is with fewer services. Sprint has the simply everything plan for which includes unlimited talk, text and data, the closest thing verizon has is unlimited talk and text for 89.99 then add 29.99 for data and you have a considerable price difference. If that was not enough they have taken the new every two program away. I often wonder if verizon is having an office pool and the bet is how many services and sensitive can we take away from our customers before they finally make a stand.

Actually, that is not true, they still will subsidize the phone every 2 years (20 months actually), the only thing they did away with was the extra $$$ incentives, $30,$50,$100, based on your bill and service. I don't think any other carrer pays you extra in addition to the subsidized phone, do they?
I will not argue with you in regards to customer service, they can be very trying at times, but "Big Red" I believe HAS been pushing Froyo out to their customers, just not to the Samsung community. Motorola Droid's have been updated to Froyo for some time now, at least according to what I have seen. If you want to get upset, I think it should point to Samsung, as they are the ones holding up ALL the carriers for the updates for their phones. There is a listing somewhere in the community that shows the phones and the carriers, and what version of Android they were running, and when they were updated to Froyo. It's very interesting to see where the issue is.....

Most of the issues with the delay are because of the added "bloatware" that is forced upon the customers phones. If you took a clean copy of Froyo (or any other OS), installed it on the device and shipped it things would be good to go. But because the carriers have to put "their junk" on the device which you can't get rid of without extreme measures in our case things like VCast, backup assistant, etc. It takes longer for the OS to work properly because "their junk" messes things up.
When I was using the Storm 2 for example, I would shrink the OS removing allot of "their junk" and the phone would run almost perfect. Friends would see how mine ran and ask me to help fix theirs too.
So in the end it is mainly the carriers fault for the delay forcing "their junk" on us.

no, actually, I can tell you from having the froyo verizon would have pushed to the nation, it's not ready, yet. it still has several issues with the OS itself.

My point exactly. I'm sure the clean version has some bugs they all do. But add all the carrier bloatware most people don't want or use and it makes things worse and takes longer to get it to a point it can be released. We should have a choice what we want on our phones that we pay for.

EB01 has been pretty much flawless for me aside from the battery life being inconsistent. Some have mentioned having issues with exchange in the native email client but I use Touchdown for work email so I haven't run into it. Seems that Froyo breaks exchange email when any phone gets it so that's nothing new. As far as being ready, I'd hazard to say that its quality is as good or better than any of the "official" updates they've pushed out.

no, this wasn't your point. you are blabbering on about "bloatware". here's the deal, verizon has already adapted all of it's software to work on froyo, since it already has phones officially with froyo on them. this literally means all verizon has to do is put the shortcuts to the downloads on the image, and call it good. I'm talking perhaps a 10 minute process at most.
if verizon worked the way you (and many others suggested), a lot of time would be wasted on a worthless process. imagine if every time a new computer came out and things like microsoft office and adobe reader needed to be adapted to each new piece of hardware. this would be a ridiculous waste of time. it's the same way with verizon's simple widgets and apps, they've already been adapted to the froyo/touchwiz 3 combination, so why would they need to spend any time for this phone?
literally almost all of samsung's/verizon's time has been spent on the OS working on the hardware combination and network.

looks like Sprint may be the first to officially push the Froyo OTA. Tmobile is still only limited to the awful Kies program afaik.

Spoken like a true company man. Guess our views, opinons, and facts are a little different. So, do you own comparison. Load a clean version of it and compare it to a bloated version and let me know what you find out.

Besides the added icons in the app drawer, I have yet to notice any significant difference in performance or battery life between any stock bloated or unbloated roms.

you don't sound like you've ever tried any froyo on the fascinate. I have yet to see any lags caused by the "bloated" froyo compared to other versions. I don't work for verizon, but I can tell you my phone has no significantly different amount of available storage between the stripped and not stripped OSs (the froyo I run doesn't have all the shortcuts installed), and I know for sure they are only shortcuts, as they ask you to download and install the apps when you click on them. this is all really common sense, but people need to come up with excuses to blame verizon.
so far with froyo, I have noticed a typo in the dialer app, the phone has gone into airplane mode on its own, it took a couple hard restarts to get my radios back, I no longer have the ability to add a number to a contact from certain places in the gui, the battery life indicator is still nowhere near accurate (right now, for example, the real battery life is 51%, and the indicator is at well over 2/3), and there are others I cannot remember right now, but there is no way I can see verizon being proud of this OS as is, so give them some time. now, froyo has fixed the mounting issues, swype issues, gps issues, and all the other issues people on here have complained about that all creeped up for me with the last update and a factory reset,
flash is still overrated, as the network just isn't fast enough to use it right (this might be slightly improved once verizon releases froyo officially), the browser, selection, copy and paste, ect... have all been improved. overall I would rate froyo okay, but not great.
fyi, the fascinate had the HD option in the youtube app since at least dl09, but I believe it was there earlier. at least mine did.

Actually, yes it is true. The NE2 program WAS the extra $$$ incentives of $30, $50 & (in the past) $100).
The discounted pricing for signing a new contract at the 20 month point in your 24 month contract was not the NE2 program, although it has been described mistakenly by several people, including Verizon salespeople.

AT&T hasn't updated the Captivate (yet). The site was up briefly with instructions and a download link but it was quickly pulled.

I stand corrected, I just looked at the Verizon site, and that is correct. It is pretty funny, my wife just upgraded at the end of last month, and the Verizon Salesman said "And your next upgrade through New Every 2 will actually be in 20 months"...
I wish they would be consistant through everything they say, but that would be wishful thinking.

verizon isn't behind, and it's not the only samsung galaxy s phone without froyo.
