I purchased a SM-G920i samsung s6 in a foreign country as I am currently on vacation. I was wondering if I should return it or if it is possible I can activate it on verizon when I get back to the US.

As above, return it. Unlocked Galaxy S6 phones are only GSM compatible and will not work for Verizon as they use CDMA.
