Can I successfully use an international SIM card in my Galaxy S3?

I'll be traveling to Scotland in a couple of weeks and was thinking of purchasing a 30 day SIM card from Vodafone. Has anyone been successful in using an international SIM card with their S3? any tips, tricks or issues I should be aware of?

So, to be clear, I can use my currently activated Galaxy S3 in the UK by removing my Verizon SIM card and temporarily replacing it with the one I purchase in the UK, correct? I would then replace my Verizon SIM card upon return to the US, correct?

How should I store the SIM card while it is out of the phone?

You got it! You would simply want to ensure that the device settings have been changed to allow for roaming. As far as storing the card, you would just want to ensure it is secure and that the gold contacts are not exposed to prevent damage.
