Can a Samsung Galaxy S111 be used on a Prepaid (or pay) as you go plan?

Hi Everyone,

This is my first post. Am thinking about getting a smartphone for my upcoming vacation. All I have ever needed is a desktop up until now. Would like to get a smartphone so I can keep in touch with my friends and well as getting in touch with them when visiting. I do not use a telephone due to a severe hearing loss so I would like to find something specifically for this trip. Was wondering if the Samsung Galaxy S 111 can be used on a no contract -prepaid (or pay) as you go plan. Will only use it for the required months needed. I know it's expensive ($70.00 per) but it's better then paying $50 - $60 a month for a whole year when I may only use it a couple months.

By the way, I would be purchasing a used Samsung Glaxay 3 111 and not a new one.

The Samsung Galaxy S3 is a 4G phone and can't be used on any of the prepaid plans offered by Verizon Wireless.

You might be better off with a tablet for prepaid data usage.

I checked into this a little and that sounds like a great idea. I have no use for the phone itself and it would allow me to check my email and browse the web. Only thing that might be bad is it needs wifi which might be difficult to get in some areas.

If I were to purchase a used one, would I be able to take it to Verizon and have it activated?

The other thing is this. Is it possible to use GPS on a tablet? My guess is it's not but will defer to the experts.

Jax was suggesting a tablet with a cellular connectivity option. Then you can connect to the Web on either cellular or wifi.

Yep! Verizon sells a few that are alright, or the Google Nexus 7 tablet will have an LTE-capable version that's compatible with Verizon in the near future from google play.

The new Nexus 7 tablet is honestly the best bang/buck tablet on the market right now. I don't know what the price is going to be on the LTE version though.

And then you just use the tablet on prepaid tablet service when you need cellular data, and use wifi at home the rest of the year.

Thanks for all the replies. You've all been a big help. The more research I do, the faster my head is spinning. lol Is it a SPECIFIC tablet model that determines whether or not it you get wi-fi AND web connectivity?

I'm trying to find a tablet that will allow me get connected in St Louis, Missouri and Wickenburg,Arizona. My friends in Az say Verizon is the ONLY carrier that has good coverage in that small town So I'm looking to get something Verizon will cover. Wi-fi is great but wi-fi and web connectivity would be much better. I'm not in any hurry since it will be awhile before I leave. I'm just putting all the pieces together for the time being.

Any of those devices will work on wifi and cellular connectivity.

The google nexus 7 (sold on http://play.google.com) offers a wifi-only version for now but it *will* have a wifi + cellular version available in the "near future" (google's words, not mine) that is compatible with Verizon Wireless 4g LTE (and *NOT* VzW 3g/2g).
