I recently updated to Froyo 2.2, but I cannot sent my phone screen to not time out while charging. I liked that feature. Is it possible to set the phone to not time out while charging with 2.2?

Hi.
I have personally tried these steps and they have worked successfully on the Samsung Fascinate with the Froyo update. When you do the steps, the backlight will not time out when being charged.

Looks like from what I have been reading that Froyo ED01 doesn't include the stay awake feature. Since my base is still EB01 (tricked out) my device still has it for now.

It is my understanding that Samsung took that option out because of screen burn in.

Thank you for the inquiry. Adding to what was stated, the 2.2 update should not have affected the function of the Stay awake feature. The Stay awake is enabled, the screen will not go to sleep (lock) while connected to a PC via USB cable. This can be useful when using some applications, such as 3G Mobile Hotspot, because the phone will disconnect a Wi-Fi or data connection when the screen locks. This setting is used for development purposes but should still work.
Please use these steps to access and try the function.
1. From the Home screen, touch Menu, Settings, Applications, Development.
2. Touch Stay awake to enable or disable the setting. When enabled, a check mark appears in the check box.
The user Manuel on page 127 refers to this information. I am providing a link to where you can access your Manuel as a reference. When accessing the website, simply put your device. The link is: http://support.vzw.com/clc/devices/index.html

I am running 2.2 on my Fascinate, and when I go to HOME | MENU | SETTINGS | DEVELOPMENT the only things I have there are USB Debugging and Allow mock locations.

yeah, that was a change they made to the Froyo builds. You'll need one of the Stay Awake widgets or apps in the market.

You stand corrected. The 2.2 somehow knocked out that feature and you have to get a widget to enable it again

I apologize the previous steps did not help. I was able to research a little more, and I see the following steps may help you.
From the main screen:
- Select Menu
- Select Settings
- Select Sound & Display
- Select Screen Timeout
- Select desired time

Those settings were for 2.1, they have been changed in 2.2

This setting should not change regardless if the device is charging or not.Thank you,

Vanessa,
yes, we all know how to set the normal screen timeout to "never". This is the same as in 2.1. The setting we are looking for is a setting that changes the normal screen timeout (let's say 10 minutes in my case) to "never" whenever the phone is plugged in or in the car dock. This was a work around for the screen going dark during a call while the phone was in the dock.

I don't know what phone VanessaC is using but my Fascinate with Froyo 2.2 update does not give me that option. I can only change the screen timeout settings form 15 sec. to 10 min. Maybe with 2.1 that worked.

Sorry about the disconnect on this one. I have located and tested a Samsung Fascinate with Firmware 2.2.1 and Baseband Version S:i500.04 V.ED04 (the current software version). I confirmed the maximum timeout time is 10 minutes, and Never Timeout is no longer an option. I have submitted this to our product team. I'm not sure if they will bring it back, but I did lift this up. It doesn't appear to be an intermittent problem, so I don't need any phone information. I tested on several phones with the current software, and the results are consistent.
I'm not sure if they will change it back, but in the meantime, an application will be a great workaround in the meantime. Sorry for any confusion and thanks for making us aware of this change.

Here's a follow-up I have received internally confirming the issue. This is intentional. This is a design of the Galaxy line of products to prevent screen burn-in on the AMOLED display. So it's not coming back because people were having issues with images being burned into the screen so they took away the functionality to have the display always on.
If it's important to have this feature, feel free to search the Market for an app that will keep it on.
