Continued 4G/3G Issues

I'm continuing to have 4g/3g issues even after the lastest update/fix that was pushed out in the last week.  I'm lucky to get a couple bars on 4G, usually i'm at just a few bars on 3g (or less) and calls are breaking up and dropping.  Connectivity for internet is very slow, even on wifi, and I find myself having to restart the phone regularly.  Any suggestions on how to "fix" this and get the phone back to where it was before the last couple of updates?

I didn't have issues with the first update, but now with this one I don't see 4G nearly as often as I used to. Previously, I always got 4G at home and now I never do.

Just uninstalled the newly imposed Caller ID app and my 4g connectivity reappeared after a restart. (I had previously restarted the phone but that alone didn't fix it.)

Thank you @alrockaz for your suggestion! I appreciate you taking the time to help out.

@mphudak,

I definitely want to get your phone up and running on those 4G speeds so you can go back to enjoying your phone.

Did you try the suggestion @alrockaz provided? I tried that on my phone and it helped!

If you are still having this issue after trying this suggestion, the next step would be to perform a hard reset http://vz.to/11LiYO2 on the device. Sometimes it is necessary to do this after a major update to clear out any corrupt files.

Keep me posted.

I haven't been able to get a signal in 4g or 3g for some time now.  Any calls that get through are so jumbled that I have to hang up.  My phone will be sitting in front of me at my work desk and the screen will flash and when I check it, I will have a voice mail from someone who just called.  There was no ring on my phone.  I thought that maybe my phone was no longer working and was going to the Verizon store to check it out when I got this update this morning.  The update has done nothing for my service.  I still ha a 1X for phone reception and can't hardly receive any calls. I just want my phone to work just like it did when I got it a year ago.

I seem to be getting simultaneous 4G and wifi connections, but all mobile data is coming over 4G, can't get it to use wifi anymore!!  Also at work if I try to access wifi I get the usual network login screen, but now it just keeps tellling me my username and password are incorrect.  Worked fine before the update.  Not happy.  I have disabled mobile data till this gets fixed!

Hey there iontyre,

I am sorry to hear about the data issues with your Samsung S3.  Let's see if we can get you back up and running.

What is the current software version you are on,http://vz.to/SrMyDh?

When you turn off mobile data, are you able to successfully connect to WiFi?

Are you only having issues connecting to your works WiFi or other WiFi networks as well?

Please provide additional information so I can better assist.

We want you to be able to use wifi at your convenience flashhuge! Have you tested the device with more than one wifi connection? Are you stating it won't connect at all or is it the indicator?

Sincerely,

I took the battery out to reset, now I can hook up to wifi both at home and work, however, it shows both the 3g/4g and wifi at the same time. BUT the arrows beneath them are lighted up under wifi when in range (even though it shows 3g/4g). Is it supposed to do that, and am I truly on wifi without using the network?

I'm glad that you asked mphudak,

In a perfect world, wifi will supercede the Verizon data connectivity as a protocol to supplement the data usage on the device. The only case when I seen 3G/4G and wifi at the same time is when the wifi connection is inconsistent. Hopefully, that's not the case with you. May I ask have you had any issues connecting to wifi with your computer and other devices? If so then please advise so we can dig deeping into this for you.

Thank you...

@mphudak,

Let's get your phone acting right so you can go back to loving your phone!

Let's reboot the phone by removing the battery and SIM card for a few minutes. Insert and retest. If the issue persist you may need to perform a hard reset http://vz.to/15NL0VO. This is sometime necessary after a major software update.

Don't listen to the last 2 posts from verizon support. They have absolutely no clue as to the problem. All your going to do is waste your time following their scripted "advice". Go to settings => Application Manager => scroll to the right to All => Find Caller ID with green icon and click disable. Reboot your phone and you sould be back to normal.

I agree - the Caller ID must be disabled (and subsequently removed). But that has not resolved my issue where the 3G/4G indicator is now always on, even when connected to wifi. Previously, when I was connected to wifi the 3G/4G indicator would not show. Now it is always present, and that began with the first update a month ago and continued with the second update, including with the removal of Caller ID>

The first update a month ago basically bricked my phone. Thankfully it was still under warranty and received a replacement. Is yours? It seems you have exhausted all other means to fix the problem. Though they may lie about it, insist on a replacement. Verizon is aware of the issues.

I have not had a bricked phone but maybe you meant the original poster. However, I suspect that the 3G/4G radio is staying on even when in wifi, which is leading to decreased battery life. Previously, when turning off wifi there would be a small lag before a 3G/4G data connection was established. Now, there is no lag and the connection is immediate. So, coupling that continued connection, supported with the constant presence of the data connection icon, I suspect the radio remains on and battery life is suffering as a result.
