I got the notification that there was an update. It downloaded rebooted and then restarted. When it came back up it said IP_Previous_Update_Failed. Any idea on how to fix this to get the update?

Have you tried manually downloading it again under System Updates?

Yes Multiple times. Also tried doing a factory reset on the phone and updating before doing anything else. Still fails.

I would say take it into the store. If they can't update it, then 30 days or not, they should give you a new unit so the update can be done.

The instructions on the DL09 update PDF state, "If the update fails, please contact Verizon Wireless Customer Care at (800) 922-0204."

Good luck!

Turn your Wi-fi off if you have it on.

Tried updating my fascinate this morning as well. Same error. But noticed I could not recv text messages. Called the number, the gal had me try the update again. Same problems. She had me turn off Wy-fi...then try the update again. Same problem. She said they were sending me a new phone..... The error would pop up once it started the media sync...

Quick question: Can this update be applied to a rooted phone?

not really the place to ask but you should be able to as long as you didn't remove any of the extra verizon stuff (if you did, you'll want to google the next steps). And it likely won't be r-worded after the update

I am having the same issue, I called Tech support on Wednesday the 19th, he couldnt' figure it out and advised me to go to the store, which I did, spent 45 minutes there, they couldn't fix it either, so they overnighted me a re-phurbish phone, which I should get today and hopfully this one works! I am so mad that there are so many complaints about this same issue and they have no idea how to fix it or why. So if they can't fix it, how I am so sure that this re-phurbished one wont have the same problem?

Some phones just won't take the OTA update. There seems to be a batch that won't update every time one is rolled out. They should offer another method like the European versions with Kies (granted that program is apparently flawed in itself though).

Same problem. Took my fascinate in to Verizon store today and was told that there is a known issue with 10,000 fascinates not accepting OTA updates. They offered to replace my phone with a like-new refurbished phone. I was told that the other option was to just update the phone from the MyVerison website via the USB connection to my phone. Still trying to figure out how to do that! Anyone have any suggestions?

you can't. The only other way to get it is by using Odin (which allows you to do it over usb) but it isn't an "official" and supported method

Same problem here. Phone said i needed upgrade, should not have done it. Got the IP_PREVIOUS_UPDATE_FAILED message after reboot. Can not receive any text messages. Text messages I send not so great. All they get on the other end is the little ballon icon with the date/time in it with no text. Looking under the USB Settings tab, it is blank. No debug, no nothing. Black screen, then message "application Media sync (process com.samsung.mtp) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again." Has "Force Close" button under that message. At Verizon store for an hour while they wiped everything out with factory reset. Same results for them. Tried the download several times and pulled battery a few times. No WiFi on, 4 bars of 3G. Verizon store played dumb and knows of no problems with upgrade. Gave me the Tech Support number for my troubles. Guess I'll have to wait for wife to get home to use her phone to call. Build # is DI01. Not blaming my phone as it worked great before the needed Verizon update!
