My data drops and comes back every second while on tether. This is after the JB update.
The things I've tried:
1. Restart
2. Restore
3. Turned password off.
4. USB tethered
It still does it. I am having to use my old RAZR. Is this a known issue?

Hi Dmaxfan,
Dropped data is no good! A great data connection is always important especially when using a device Hotspot. Let's pick this data connection up! Lets Hard Reset the device once again http://bit.ly/tC9oiG, this time please do not reload any of your information back to the device, just activate the device. Please make sure no anti-virus, task killer, or battery saver applications install to the device after the reset. Please test the Hotspot immediately following the reset. Once tested, you can reload your information back to the device. Keep me posted on results.
Thanks,

From what I've read, it sounds like a widespread problem. Sorry, but it takes a few hours to reload all of my apps and widgets so I am not going to reset again. Too much of a pain and reception is not the best where I work at. I've already reset my phone a couple of times to no avail. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. I'll just wait for a new update.

As much as I agree after an OS update you should do a hard reset, I would try using the device in safe mode which takes all the 3rd party apps out of the equation. This is basically doing what the rep wants without the reset.

I have already tried to reset twice. It won't work a third. I'll try safemode though.

Safemode doesn't fix it either. Guess I'll wait until the next update.

Nothing you can do will fix it. These are programming issues in regards to Verizon's demands for gimping the app for their authentication and billing purposes. Verizon implements 2 NAIs (network access interfaces) one for data going through the phone, and another for data going through tethering. Apparently the tethering app on your phone is not sending authentication data properly so the authentication server is kicking you off. Fixing and updating the app will be the only effective fix.
If these **** US carriers would just stop trying to monetize tethering and let google implement the standard AOSP tethering app that they do in other countries this wouldn't be a problem.
I wish there were an EFFECTIVE means to petition the FCC to make them stop charging for this, and make the carriers put the OEM tethering app in the ROM software. These gimped apps impede the functionality of the utility to an almost unacceptable degree.
