Digital Secure has started draining my S10 battery, accounting for a third of all battery usage today. Is any of it essential?

We can certainly assist with your concerns, ReeCeeRob. To clarify, is the Digital Secure app and software on your phone fully up-to-date? Has this app recently started draining the battery?

I am having the same problem, it just started doing this in the last day out two.
I used to be able to get a full day out of the battery but it's so bad now I am having to charge in less than 6 hours.
In battery usage it is at the top of the list at 59.1%. the next item is Firefox at 6.1%.
This is horrible and a serious problem.

Having a battery that you can depend on is necessary. Gadget, I'd like to gather a few details to best assist. Has there been any recent changes to your device software or apps? How long have you been using your device?
Can you please run an Android Device Health Check and share the results with us here via screenshot?

I don't get it. Why is GinaU of Verizon trying to blame on you and your apps when so many others including myself have experienced the huge increase starting in the past couple of days. It does not take a genius to conclude that Verizon has done something after the 1st of September to this app to make it go crazy.

bhoff32, if you noticed this issue after the update, then it may have had a small quirk in it to make it perform this way. Once you do an app updates, it's best to also check for software updates as well. Since updates can not be reversed when completed, and we want you to have the best device experience: http://vz.to/1Isp89s will be updated if new software becomes available with a fix for that issue. At this time, we don't have an exact date that it will be released but you may keep checking the link.

Have same problem also. Digital secure is usually number 1 on the list by percentage of battery usage. I can't figure out how to open the app and turn it off either

How does your device perform in safe mode?

Why would I run in Same Mode? Since I have disabled the app my battery usage has dropped. significantly.
Maybe Verizon should fix the app since like others this only started happening recently.

We apologize for any confusion. This is not a permanent fix. Safe Mode will help us to better determine what is happening with the battery. We're standing by for results.

I just saw how to open the app. Funny thing is it is not even Activated as the choice is to pick a paid plan or the free one and then click Activate. So it's using all this battery even though it isn't activated??

We certainly want to make sure your battery is working at its best, sfinger100. Are you able to disable Digital Secure? This would be in Settings, Apps, scroll to Digital Secure, Disable. These steps will prevent the app from being used and draining your battery.

Yes I did disable it but of course if it's an app that protects my security shouldn't it be fixed so I can use it?

sfinger100, Safe Mode will disable all third party apps. We just want to ensure it's an app causing this to happen, vs. the actual phone/hardware. However, if you're saying it's better since you disabled the security, that's likely the cause. We can certainly lift this up to our Developers to try and get this resolved as quickly as possible.
Please let me know if you decide to run the phone in Safe Mode, and if you notice more significant changes.

If this app is supposed to be for security, why would I disable it? Why would Verizon not just fix the problem? I am a bit confused by the responses here, and the lack of responsibility by the creator of the app. You know, the one we're paying bundles of money to every month?

mikeyzio, we definitely want to ensure that you're able to take advantage of Digital Secure. Please rest assured that I have submitted your experience with the app to our internal teams to improve your experience going forward. You may also submit your feedback using the following steps in the My Verizon app: More > Feedback.

Did this ever get figured out? I started having the same problem with my phone. I would mostly notice it when I unplugged it from charging or sometimes when picking it up after not using it for awhile. The screen would start flashing with none of the apps showing on the screen...I wouldn't be able to use the phone. I would instead have to restart and then it would typically work. However, I also had the major battery drain. Went to the Verizon store twice and they did some clean up to see if that would help, but it didn't. It wasn't until I got a notification about Digital Secure that it occurred to me to disable it to see what would happen (there was no mention of Digital Secure when I went to the Verizon Store). So far so good although I just disabled it a little bit ago. However, I'm concerned about security. What do I do to ensure my phone is still secure if I've disabled it?

We want you to feel secure about your phone, lynette_andersen. It is concerning to hear that the Digital Secure seems to be putting unexpected drain on the battery. When it comes to protecting your phone, Digital Secure is only one option. There are others in the App Store or Google Play Store. You are definitely taking the right steps by disabling or uninstalling apps you do not need. Now that it has been a couple of days, have you noticed a change in the battery life? Has the phone acted up in any way since you disabled Digital Secure?

It was doing a scan every time I received a message, which is where I think the drain was. I went into the app, clicked Settings from the menu, Security and Privacy, and unclicked Messages, so it no longer scanned them. Did not have issues with it draining my battery after that.
