I purchased a new Galaxy S5 in Nov. 2015. Is there a mfg warranty or should I pay the $11 per mo?

Whether or not you pay the $11/month for insurance is up to you. The manufacturers warranty and insurance do not cover the same thing. The warranty is for defects in the phone due to the manufacturer. Insurance WILL cover that after the warranty coverage ends but it ALSO covers physical damage/loss due to your actions which ARE NOT covered by the warranty.

If it is brand new you have a warranty until same date 2016.
