Email account on Galaxy S7

Question

I just purchased my phone.  I use Gmail as my email account but the salesman set up my email under the regular "email" icon.

I want to change it to the Gmail Icon.

If I delete/remove my current email and then re-add my Gmail account, will it re-sync all my past emails or do I loose them?

Deleting the email account and re-adding it back using the Gmail app will NOT delete all your emails - they remain on the Gmail server and are only deleted when you specifically delete them from your computer or within the Gmail app.
