Recently noticed that every 30 seconds or so, an eyeball symbol appears briefly in the notifications bar area.  What is that?

You have Smart Stay enabled on your phone.  This feature keeps the phone's screen lit as long as the sensor detects that you are reading the screen, regardless of your screen timeout settings.

Any chance of getting a screenshot of it?

Can't get a picture of it.  It’s on my phone. So I don’t know how to get a screenshot of it. It
looks like the symbol for CBS TV network, but it kinda has eyebrows.

Hold the power button and the volume down button for about 2-3 seconds to get a screenshot.

You can also check the full user manual. It is available on online through the manufacturer website or Verizon Wireless support link above.
