FYI on the Samsung Galaxy S8/ S8 VR Promo advertised here from Verizon ...

I Pre-purchased the Samsung Galaxy S8+ on April 1st, In part because of the VR Promo. But mostly because my current LG G3 is old and acting up. I heard about the S8 back in December so I put off repairing the G3 or getting a new phone until it's release and see what it was looking like as a final product. I liked what I saw when they released the info and when I saw the VR promo deal, I jumped at the deal because it seemed well worth it.

So after the purchase, I tried to register for the VR promo. After a couple hr's researching here on VZW and on Samsung, as well as chatting with VZW CS, I discovered that Samsung wasn't opening up the Pre-order link on the VR gear till today.

So I get home from work today, head to Samsung to look for the link and again, it's not there. After another 2+ hrs try'n to figure it all out, reading all the post's in the forums and then 3 calls to Samsung support that I drove a bulldozer through, I received the following info.

You have to physically have the phone for the IMEI and Mac address to complete registration. Even when they do add the Pre-order link on the VR promo page ( they are frantically try'n to get it working right now ) and when you do add the info from the pre-order, you'll still be missing the IMEI and Mac address off of the phone itself, which means VR pre-order will be incomplete and you will be unable to process the order until you have that information.

Which means we will have to wait till the 21st before they can order (or Pre-order, depending on how you look at it ) which ever gear you want and then you will have to wait another 6 to 8 weeks before the VR gear arrives at your door step. BUT you don't get the free or discounted gear if you DON'T pre-order by the 21st.

On top of all this, in mmy documents and receipts page, I have a contract for 2 of the S8+'s but with the same number

Frankly, I am very, VERY discouraged by this entire experience.

Well if they agreed to let you have it just for pre-ordering the phone, you could then cancel your order and get the free gear. When I ordered the phone it was pretty clear I couldn't register for the offer until I received the phone.

That's kind of how it works. You have to have the proof you purchased it and it's in your possession. I did the promo for a gear s2 when the s7 came out and had to do everything you're cute you required to do that's just how it works. You pre order, once you receive it you send in the information. Basically proof of purchase. Not sure why you're so upset.

According to FedEx tracking, My S8 is supposed to be delivered by tomorrow, so will have plenty of time to register it and request my free VR Gear.

Yes that's how all Samsung promos work but I admit it's not 100% obvious. You need the information off the physical phone to get the promo. Good news it's coming soon!

All I can say is make sure you put it in as sooo as you get all the info. And stay patient. It took a long time for anything to happen once it was submitted. It was weeks before it was even accepted. Don't get frustrated. Its an extremely slow process.

I got the s8+ delivered today. Just registered for the promo through the samsung shop app. You don't really need the IMEI or Mac address. You just send a picture of the paper receipt that comes in the phone(don't use the option to take a picture within the app, it is terribly distorted and unreadable).

Hopefully yours comes soon, this phone is awesome!

I got the Samsung S8 in the mail today. My problem is I can't find anywhere on Samsung Shop to register it. Just the option to preorder the phone. Am i missing something??

Im waiting for FEDEX to deliver my S8+ anytime, but today for sure ! I haven't had a new phone in years. Im still using my Samsung Galaxy Note 3 , and aside from the battery upgrade and one glass screen replace, it still works like a champ ! I have been hanging onto my GrandFathered "UNLIMITED DATA" plan for years but since they are once again offering an Unlimited Data, I decided to go for the new phone as well. Looking forward to playing with the VR Gear also. Good luck everyone.

I forget exactly where it was, but it is the "register your phone" option that you want to do to sign up for the gear vr promo.

I've had a similar thing.... I preoredred my s8 plus on April 1st... since I preoredred the phone I never received anything about how to redeem the VR...... one vzw employee told me when I preoredred the phone I'll be given a promo code... I didnt... another vzw employee told me to log onto samsung.com/us/promotions and redeem from there.... nothing is on that website.... another vzw employee told me on April 10th go on the Samsung site and redeem/register... nothing there.... then another vzw told me that I need the phone to be delivered and I need my receipt and numbers and go on samsung site and register....... I got my phone today and still nothing and vzw still giving me the same answers...... I called samsung and spoke to cutomer service and all they said was go on the website and redeem from there...... I once again go on samsung.com/us/promotions and still nothing there... only thing that is on the website it to pre order directly from Samsung to get a free VR....... I think the entire thing was a scam from vzw just to get ppl to order the phone from them

Hey Joel,

I also had some trouble finding exactly where to redeem the promo. I ended up downloading the samsung shop app and creating an account. Once I did the it asked me to register my device. When you register the s8, it will then have you select either the free gear vr offer, or the $99 bundle with sd card and headphones. Youll need to atttach a picture of the paper reciept that came in the box(use the phones camera app, the in app option is too distorted) then it gets reviewed and hopefully sent soon.

Now that you mention it, I had trouble logging in at 1st too. I ended up having to go through the "forgot password" process(even though I am certain the password was correct), then I was able to log in. It was definitely much harder than it should have been, but I was able to eventually do it. Maybe try reaching out to samsung support if the password reset fails for you?

Here's hoping you can finally get signed up for the promo so you can sit back and enjoy your new phone until the gear vr arrives!

So I get registered for the Samsung Promo today around noon and already the promo with the extra stuff from Samsung is sold out. Bummer. That's part of the reason I bought the new s8+ is to get the complete promo offering.

I pre-ordered my S8 on March 30th. I tried to register on the Samsung website and it is stating that my info is wrong. So I tried on the Samsung App. It states wrong partner id. Did anyone else have this issue? I waited 2 hours on hold last night and had to disconnect do to needing to head to work. I am calling again today and yet on hold again for almost 2 hours

I preordered the S8 last week and finally got mine an hour ago. I can't get it activated and went on the samsung website to register and it was all out. The VR item was a big reason that I chose this phone over several others I was considering. Very disappointed in both Samsung and Verizon at the moment. I am half considering to send the phone back and go back to my old phone.

And now as a final dissapointment, most who have received their device as of the 20th and 21st are u able to register/redeem for the VR bundle promo as it has been sold out. Samsung did a number on us, seems like the only consumers who were able to enjoy this bundle are those who purchased the device directly from Samsung as they were the only ones allowed to pay and register at time of purchase. Everyone else had to wait for their device to be delivered. How is this fair? I purchased 2 devices just because of this bundle. I am seriously thinking about returning both devices and switching to iPhone. Sad and extremely disappointed

is it just me?? or does it seem like the "edge" isnt all that much edgy??? seens like theres barely an edge on it... just very slightly.... i feel like the note series had more of a curve to there edges

Picked up my S8+ from Best Buy on the 21st. By the time I got home and navigated through Samsung's clunky redemption site the $99 bundle was "sold out". Totally ridiculous. That bundle was one of the reasons I preordered this device. To have it not available anymore on the very first day the phone is released is total [Removed]. Samsung should be ashamed of themselves. This is a total bait and switch. I feel BestBuy and Verizon helped facilitate this sham by pushing out the ads and having their sales force state the phone comes with the promo when in fact there were apparently only a handful available. They all need to do the right thing here and make good on their end of the deal. I'll never pre order a device again.

As an update I was on hold yesterday (4/21) for a total of 3 1/2 hours. Samsung picked up at 6:15 PM my time. After requesting to speak to a supervisor 3 times I was forwarded to Lateefa who advised me they would forward my complaint to the next tier customer service and that I would receive an email within 48 hours. I ask how this would result in a different response than last time. Lateefa had no good answer for that one. Now I understand Samsung is out of VR Gear... Very disappointed. Someone is about to lose another customer.

Not only did Samsung do a number on us Verizon is letting it happen. Samsung pushed this promotion through all the carriers. If you ordered your phone through Samsung they had all your info which allowed their customers to have first go at the bundles 11 days before anyone got their phone from their carrier.

The $99 VR bundle was basically sold out on 4/21. Not only is this false advertising by Samsung but for all carriers including Verizon. If there is not a backorder promotion opened for us carrier preorders I will be sending my two S8 plus phones back to Verizon within the 14 day grace period and turning my old phones back on.

All y'all complaining about them not having the *free promotion* items and threatening to go to iPhone are sad. It's a limited promo and it even says not guaranteed. Mine was accepted for the free and is under review and if I don't get it on well. It's not like I paid for it and they're taking the money and not sending me something. Don't ever buy anything for a pre order special and then cry when it sells out. It happens.

I don't see anyone complaining about a free promotion. Pretty sure it's the $99 Vr bundle that you "pay for". And I don't think your following the real problem here.

Samsung preorder customers was able to fill out the forms for their $99 VR bundle on April 10 when the link went live because Samsung had their receipt in their system. That's 11 days before anybody that preordered through their carrier could get a shot on April 21. So this $99 bundle you "pay for" was sold out before carrier preorders was able to order because of no receipt in hand.

So in short, use reading comprehension before heading to your next forum.

It would be helpful if you or someone at Verizon would advise Samsung that my phone was not any of the following: “intended for a non-United States market, being a store display model, or being a refurbished device”. They don’t seem inclined to believe me.

When I registered my s8 plus there were two VR bundles I can choose from.. the one where u get the headphones said sold out but the other option wasnt.... so hopefully I'll get my VR and controller

TO: Biscuit347 - The complaints are that only people who ordered the S8 / S8+ directly from Samsung were able to buy the "fully immersive" VR experience for $99. That offer was rescinded without warning before Verizon customers were allowed to order the phone(s). That constitutes false advertising (no where was it stated quantities are limited / first come, first served) and possibly bait and switch, both of which are illegal in NJ. I have no intention of returning the phone (and have registered for the "free" promo - although note you only have 4 weeks after receipt of the VR gear - 6 to 8 week shipping time - to get the "free" Oculus content). However, this is a black eye for Samsung who can hardly afford to disappoint more customers after their last phone debacle. It also does not reflect well on Verizon who allowed the scam to proliferate.

The promotion clearly stated "while supplies last". I fail to see any issue here. I received my s8+ from Verizon on the 19th, and signed up for the $99 bundle on the 20th. It shipped this passed Thursday and I should have it Wednesday.

At the end of the day, it's a bonus, and if that was the only reason you bought the phone, I do not see how the blame is with Verizon and/or samsung.

Had you received your device after the 20th then u would understand. If I told u to buy something I was selling and that I would give u an Oppurtunity to register for a bonus but you could only do so when you receive what you bought from me and then once you receive that you contact me to register and I tell you "sorry I don't have any more bonuses" you would be upset.
