I've had 4.0.4 for a few days now, and can say while things appear to have improved, my device still has issues. Have already experienced several dropped calls, loss of data connection, and complete mobile network disconnect

Since yesterday I have dropped a few calls and text take a while to send. It has been better than it was though. I am just about at the end of my rope with this phone. I am ready to give this up for the Maxx.

I was eagerly waiting for this update to fix the reception dropping issues.....and to my dismay it still drops. I was told this was the fix for it. My wife and I both have the galaxy nexus and both were updated to 4.0.4 and we are still experiencing the reception issues where we cannot make a call or text for about 5 to 10 seconds.

I'm fairly certain that a batch (who knows how large) of phones was shipped with faulty radios.
I for one have never had a problem with my phone's connection except for maybe a slow handoff between 3G and 4G, but that was fixed with the 4.0.4 radios.
A friend of mine had a device that would constantly lose its data connection. Text messages would fail, phone calls would drop, etc.
Verizon told him that an update would fix this, but I manually updated his phone to 4.0.4 a few months ago and the problem persisted. We reset the device to stock and had him swap it out for another device.
Since he got a new handset, he's been problem free.
So if you have issues with your data connection dropping I can almost guarantee your hardware is faulty. I suggest you demand a replacement from Verizon. It's likely that it'll be a refurb but that's not a problem, the phone works great if you have working hardware.

Okay.... Really was hoping the update was the fix.....it wasn't. So I called Verizon ....which was very helpful and has shipped me a replacement. Crossing my fingers hoping this will be the reception fix. I will update my findings later this week when I get the replacement phone.

Just don't go past your 14-day return period. I'm glad I got rid of my Nexus for my Rezound. ICS is nice, but it's not THAT big of a difference over Gingerbread.

So my first galaxy nexus got hot while talking, so under the 14 day limit i got another handset, now this one has the reception 4G issues discussed here. Will they do another exchange within the 14 day limit of 2nd handset? Though I may just go back to my problem-free Motorola Droid X and back to my original contract end date/upgrade date(they actually moved my upgrade date 3 mos so some props to Verizon)

Nope and my issues got worse. They have swapped my Sim card and sent me a replacement. Still nothing has helped. And its not like I'm in a rural area. I live right outside of NYC.

I updated 6/2/2012 my device has never had issues with data connection or text but I do have the dropped call issue. the update has not resolved this issue for me. I have been calling Verizon once a week since March and they have replaced the handset twice and sim card once. I am finished with this device. I'm going to demand a Rezound or Razr Max. Enough is Enough!!

im on replacement #4 and sim card #3, nothing has helped. I think the update actually made my problem worse, i cannot keep a cellular signal for more than 10 seconds, then it turns gray then disappears completely with a white X

my update to 4.0.4 happened 6/2/2012 since then I have dropped 7 of 12 phone calls including 3 today. I called Verizon to report my displeasure and my rep has opted to send me a 4th replacement hardware & 3rd SIM card. At this point I doubt that I will ever have a fully functional Nexus Galaxy in my life. If this does not work I don't know what device I would be willing to move to, bad Droids killed Motorola for me, HTC scared me with the Thunderbolt. What's left. If this next Nexus does not work I am not sure whats next for me.

I've been on 4.0.4, and my GalNex now is the awesome phone that it should have been! I am in full 4G coverage, and I don't drop signals or calls at all. It is really a lot more stable. I also had the freeze and restart issue, that is gone too.

Short answer: No. Verizon replaced my first Galaxy Nexus under warranty because it completely lost its data connection and all the VZW-recommended fixes would not get it back. The replacement Nexus intermittently loses its network connection and has to be turned off/on to get it back. My wife has named it "Wiper" because it's intermittent. The phone is disconnected from the mobile network more than it's connected. The ICS 4.0.4 fix has not fixed the problem. I loved the original phone until this problem started, but if VZW cannot fix this problem, I plan to insist on some replacement phone model, assuming I remain with VZW.

Well got my replacement phone yesterday and activated it. My fingers were crossed hoping this would work. Much as I anticipated the signal dropped about 18 times in just a few hours. So I swapped back to my original phone. I didn't want to find out what else was wrong with that refurbished phone. This has to be a hardware problem.... Doesn't make sense with all the signal dropping issues.

I got my Galaxy Nexus about two months ago. It had serious signal issues - I noticed it mostly with voice, but a little bit with data too.
I upgraded to 4.0.4 and it didn't solve the problem. I realized it must be my device when I ran into my cousin who has the same phone, and his was pulling 3-4 bars, and mine had no signal at all (While holding them side-by-side).
I finally decided to request a replacement, which I received on Monday. The replacement works a million times better - which has led me to conclude that my original phone must have been a lemon - and with reading all the complaints I've seen here and on other forums, there must have been a whole batch of lemons.
Long story short: go to the verizon store and request a replacement. Hope for the best. My next step was going to be requesting a different phone (I.e. Razr maxx).

@Ninjustin, can you check under Settings->About->Baseband version? Does it say I515.09 or I515.10? Just wanted to know if you are running hardware version 9 or 10. I am running version 9 and after the 4.0.4 update, things are really looking good for my phone.
