Frustrated

I have switched from iPhone to S4 and so far I hate the S4. I am so frustrated that I cannot use my music from iTunes without paying someone a monthly fee, there are too many confusing "app stores" on the phone and none of them seem to let me look for the items I need. I cannot seem to buy tunes on this phone and it will not allow me to download my iTunes files unless I put the whole library on it which I am not willing to do. I cannot even load some of the songs that I've paid for through iTunes because for some reason it says I don't have the right to my music.

I am also frustrated that I have to open 5 different inboxes to get my email. It was so simple on the iPhone to open the inbox and see all mail from all accounts. Now I have separate boxes for each gmail acct as well as a combined box for "other" email accounts.

These are just some of the issues with this phone, I also cannot put a picture where it says "Story Album" and just see the picture. It always alternates with a blank picture that has an arbitrary date on it, so I am stuck with the ugly picture of someone's feet hanging out of a car. I wonder why I am not allowed to just change that to something that is not so ugly?

There are many more problems with this phone, I will continue to read these posts and see if I can fix some of the problems but I fear I am now stuck with a very expensive phone that I hate for the next several years.

How long ago did you get the S4? If it's within 14 days you can return it. I'm not completely familliar with transferring from itunes to an android device but you should be able to manually move the music from the computer to the S4 by plugging the S4 into the computer with a usb cable and putting it in media storage mode (although the itunes songs may have to be converted to mp3 format first). As for the app stores, the only one you should have to worry about is the Play Store which is Google's App store and I've never had trouble with it or found it difficult to use. As for the other issues, hopefully someone else may have some input or fixes for you but overall moving from an iphone to an android device can be a bit of a change but I think if you give it time you'll learn how to do more on it and enjoy it.

Actually you can hook the S4 to your computer and pick and choose via drag and drop only the songs you want. You can also long press the photos to save, delete or edit. Its quite easy. Thank you everyone for your helpful suggestions. I still find that I am spending hours trying to do just the simplest tasks. For example: my daughter's ringtone was always "Angie" by the Stones. Well, google didn't allow me to keep my copy because I had it on mp4 or something and a whole lot of my songs will not transfer over (a couple hundred dollars worth of downloads), so I bought the song again so that I could again use it for her ringtone. Now when I try to add it as I have several other songs it does not show up in my list of songs that I can use for a ringtone. I have tried several times to follow directions to download the song, but it will not show up in my "queue" and I cannot find any way to download it to the phone. I'm about ready to throw the phone out the window. I am literally crying because I am stuck with this phone for the next two years.

BTW. I did put google play on my pc and it has now been trying to download my 1000 songs for 24 hours... It is up to #649 and so far there are 121 songs that cannot be downloaded. I'm wondering if it will ever finish downloading.

Well I have some good news and some bad news first off Google music takes a long time even for less songs than what you own. The bad news is certain songs from Apple iTunes is not able to transfer due to some rights thingy think its called DRM so that could be an issue.

I will say that on my former droid and my new HTC One I simply went into the itunes music folder on my computer (do not use itunes) via a direct usb hook up. After my cell was found and uses a seperate drive letter you simply open the itunes music folder and either select each song or just right click the whole music folder and click on select all, copy

Then go to the music folder on the cell and right cluck the music folder and select paste. All songs should transfer over.

you may get a message asking if you wish to convert songs to the android select yes for all.

Setting a ring tone from a song requires you to go into the contacts and select the song or simple select the song and say "use as ringtone" but read the users manual to learn how to do it. I do not own your brand of device.

I do own an iphone and an android phone and have no problem getting or using music on either device.

Thank you, but I have just spent 5 hours trying to get this song that I have now purchased from google play AGAIN on the ringtone but when I go to look for it to add it to the ringtone it is no where to be found. I open the google play folder and it is there everywhere, but it will not show up in the songs on the phone for ringtones no matter how I try. I have wasted enough time and now need to go do something to stop crying because I have bought the worst phone ever.

You have to connect your phone to your computer to drop the song into your music folder. It not difficult once you get the hang of it. Android is not as "easy" as apple, but at least what you can buy can be placed on anything. That DRM thing is an apple issue and not android. You can go to your itunes account and pay the fee to remove the DRM and then all the songs can be transferred or just the ones that you want. Google play will copy your songs from your itune account for you. Once in the music folder, just open it up copy the song you want and paste it into the music folder on the phone. Switching to a new system can be frustrating I know. I went from a Crackberry to a Droid X, but never looked back once I got used to Android. Love it. The S4 is an awesome phone. Take a deep breath and keep at it, you will get it and be amazed at what this phone can do. Sorry if I am giving you info you already have. Just want to help if I can.

Thank you everyone. After 10 hours of working on this problem I was able to download the song to the desktop of my computer, open the ringtones folder in playlists on my phone, and drag the song from the desktop (it would not drag from any media player I own, nor would it drag from the media players on the phone) and drop it in the folder. Then I was allowed to finally use it for a ringtone. Oh, and I was informed that I am not allowed to download this song I purchased anymore...

I know many of you are very happy with this phone, but I am devastated that I have spent so much money on such a "dumbphone" and I am stuck with it for 2 years. I wish I had just gotten a basic phone, I would be paying much less for phone service, since I can't use this much for anything but phone calls and texting...

Like many things in life we have to learn.

As the phones get more powerful and complicated, we have to read the owners manuals cover to cover (when the companies provide them) but you can always download from the phone makers web sites.

I'm glad to see that you have found a way to use the song you want as a ringtone. My wife did the opposite (she went from an Android device to an iPhone) and she had a hard time adjusting to the new operating system at first, but now she loves her new phone. actually, I think your problem isn't with Android, but Apple putting so many restrictions on music that you purchase. You bought the song, you should be able to do what you want with it.

What I would suggest is to convert confirm your songs in iTunes are in MP3 format. Normally when you make a purchase from iTunes it is downloaded as an AAC file, which includes copyright protection. Since Apple does not play nice with android, iTunes does not pass on the permissions to play your file on an android device for this type of file. At least this has been my experience.

In iTunes, you do have the option of making an MP3 version of your AAC files which you CAN copy/paste onto your android device which WILL be able to play. I have done this for ALL of my iTunes music, not that I purchase much music from Apple. I can normally find the same music for a lower price from Amazon which automatically gets loaded into iTunes after purchase.

An easy way to perform this conversion is to list all of your music in iTunes in your library view. Organize the music by file type, select all of your AAC songs, right click on the selection and then choose make MP3 version. This should make another copy of all of the selected in the MP3 format.

There are a couple of things on this. Apple allows the copying of their "downloaded purchased music" 4 times. However your own music can be copied as many times as you like. When a person installs itunes on a desktop or laptop running Windows the Media Player can be set to get a copy of music downloaded to itunes or in itunes to make a copy to Media Player. That is the way we have our systems set up.

In iTunes you can also have the music be sent to Google Play Music (Must have the program installed on your computer) and it becomes available on your android devices to listen to.

I have noticed Apple iTunes music has a .4a extension, but it has not been an issue transferring to my wifes droid and on my old Spectrum but on the HTC One it said on transferring it would convert the files automatically. Perfect transfer.

If you have a Motorola phone you can also use Motocast which is like Napster in it stays on your home computer and music, photos, and documents are on your phone as long as the computer is on.

Many different ways to move music, you just got to read up on each method. I did lije your solution. I use the songs on my itunes to convert to 30 second ring tones and just transfer them to my iphone. Much easier than spending money for them. ha ha

I do the same to make ringtones. I use ringdroid from the Play Store. You can use the desktop version to edit music on your computer or the android version on your phone to edit music on your phone.:smileyhappy:
