Galaxy S5 Suddenly Won't Call Out or Receive Calls

I have an Galaxy S 5 and it's been fine, until it suddenly won't connect to outgoing or incoming calls (says "dialing" and gives up eventually, and incoming calls go to voicemail). I can do text, email, and data. I have rebooted it twice. Any ideas? I need to make some calls.

I know it's important to keep those calls going JLDunne. I'm sorry to hear about these difficulties. Anything change on the device since this started? New apps, updates or settings? Have you tried a battery pull? Where are you located?

I'm the original post person. After doing every reboot, reset, revamp, possible at Best Buy Samsung booth with reps, I went to Verizon and went through Tech Level 1 & 2. Ultimately, it turned out to be a hardware problem and Verizon shipped me a replacement that is working fine. The symptoms finally narrowed down to my microphone on the phone stopped working after about 30 seconds on a call. I could hear people, but they couldn't hear me. The new phone is working fine for the last few weeks. It was an aberration. I like the phone overall.

Hello bhess, let's get to the bottom of this together! What specific zip code in Idaho is having the signal issue? Does the issue occur both indoors and outdoors? Please power off the phone, remove the sim card for 40 seconds, and reboot.

I recently (last week!) had the same thing with a brand new S5. If incoming calls go directly to voice mail, check Settings / More Networks /Mobile Networks/ Network Mode and try setting it to LTE/CDMA if it is set to Global. With mine, nothing helped and the whole phone needed to be replaced.

Hi!

I am suddenly having the same problem. I tried all of the troubleshooting I could find online, but had no success. I took my phone in to my local Verizon store where they check connectivity to towers and also changed out the sim card. Unfortunately, my problem was not resolved. Because I didn't buy my phone there, they were unable to replace it today.

As a work around I set up a Google Voice account (which required an active phone line, I happened to have a landline, but you could use a friends phone really). Instructions can be found at voice.google.com

Then I installed the dialer extension app for the Hangouts app (simpler than it sounds, you just install Hangouts Dialer from the play store)

In hangouts, open the left panel (by pressing the three lines by your profile picture), click settings, then click the google account associated with your voice account.

Scroll down to the section titled Google Voice, and check the "incoming phone calls" box.

You should also go back to voice.google.com, click the gear in the top right corner, click settings (I did this on desktop). Select the "phones" tab, and you can set up which devices you want to ring. I deselected my landline, and left my gmail/google account selected.

Of course, this means all calls are sent over the internet, not over the cell network. So if I'm connected to wifi, it will use that. If I'm only connected to 4g, it will use that, so watch your data if you're in a pinch to make calls!

Tidbits

Try turning off VoLTE. I have a feeling it's that. It happens to a lot of devices on other carriers not just Verizon.
