Galaxy S5 no longer recognizes microsd card(s).

I have a S5 with a 64gb samsung evo microsdxc card. The card was working fine and was filled with music and photos and one day the phone just stopped recognizing it. All the apps that were on the card would no longer run. I pulled the card out and put it in a card reader and got all of the data off. Then I reformatted it as exfat with windows7 and the S5 still will not mount it.

When I put the card in and go to Settings -> Storage -> mount SD card. I get an error message "SD card is blank or has unsupported file system" . If I go ahead and tell the S5 to format the card it says "card is safe to remove" then nothing happens. Attempts to mount the card again repeat the same messages. I have tried two different microsd cards both cause the same behavior. Both cards are fully readable in a card reader connected to a computer. I've even done a full 64gb read-write test on the card and its working.

  I tried to clear the app cache and I tried a full factory reset and re-installed all my apps and still it wont recognize either card.

I've had the phone for less than a year and I am wondering if its still under warranty. I really need the extra storage for music / photos / apps the phone only has 16gb built in.

I rely on my SD card for additional storage as well. Did you have any system updates recently when this began to happen? What were the type of cards you had tried testing with your phone?

Software update history showed there was an update on 3/14 about two weeks before I noticed the card was no longer mounted. But I was not using the phone much those weeks and its possible I didn't notice immediately.

Currently software update says its updated to the latest version.

G900VVRU2PBP1

Config

J13.SAM.SMG900V.1

About phone shows a build of

LRX21TG900VVRV2BPB1

The microSD cards were;

Samsung Evo 64gb (was working in phone for more than six months)

Kingston 16gb class 10

I have a lot of music and photos on my phone so I know how important a resolution is, ward56. We are not giving up on this. Have you been able to attempt to use this SD card in another device to see if the same errors duplicate? This will be a good test to narrow down the issue being related to the card. Please keep us posted.

I upgraded the verizon cloud and it wiped out my sd card.  I also had all my photos on there disappear and tells me I need to reformat card which I am afraid to do if there is a chance the last 6 months of photos and videos are still there.

the cloud isn't going to wipe out the card. you provided the card & it may have failed.

That's what I thought too. But when I pulled the card and put it in a card reader it seemed to be working fine. I got all the files (pictures) off it , then I re-formatted it and tested it with h2testw and it passed. I guess I will get another card and see if for some reason that works.
