Global Phone

I upgraded to Jelly Bean. I  understand this makes the S3 a global phone. Since I upgraded I have twice received a message that I was connecting to an Global network and that additional charges would apply. This is odd because I was within a few miles of my home in MA. I went to Settings..More Settings..Mobile Networks...Network Mode and my preferred network was set to Global. I set it to LTE/CDMA (there is a third choice "GSM/UMTS".

Is this a problem?

Also does this mean that the phone can be used internationally? It wasn't advertised as a Global Ready phone when  I bought it. There seems to be a lot of conflicting information about this on on other discussion groups. Your thoughts are appreciated.

Intocable..thanks for help. That tracks with what I have seen in other discussions. I guess Wifi will be sufficient if do need a high speed internet connection when traveling internationally. I haven't had any problems since I changed my preference to CDMA/LTE so i will leave it that way and change it to Global if I need to.
