How about visual voicemail on a pay-per use or one-time app fee basis?

I would like to have visual voicemail occasionally, but I don't get too many voice messages and I don't need it that often. I'm not going to pay $2.99/mo. for something I might use 4-5 times a year...

Which phone model do you have? Most newer phones are eligible for the free basic visual voicemail.

That's an older phone model that might not be compatible with the basic visual voicemail option. Plus being on the prepaid plan limits your options further. Visual voicemail is only included for the iPhone on the prepaid plans.
