How do I get WiFi usable again on LG G3 with Lollipop?

azwethinkweiz18, we want your phone be used to it's full advantage! What happens when you try to connect to Wi-Fi? Do you have other devices connected to that Wi-Fi connection?

Have you powered your device off/on since retrieving the software update? Do you have 3rd party applications downloaded to your phone?

It connects to Wi-Fi just fine. It has problems loading web pages while on the Wi-Fi. The blue-bar indicating the page loading simply stops about 1/10th of the way for several seconds and sometimes never loads (due to the timeout). Here's an example of me trying to load a website (microsoft.com):

Yes, there are three other devices (laptops running Windows) connected to the same Wi-Fi connection, with no problems.

Yes. I've powered off/on and it doesn't help.

No. I actually did a factory reset after the installation, hoping that would help, but it also did not fix the problem. So as of now I have NO installed applications and the problem persists.

I have exactly this problem and have talked/chatted for support and tried all of their suggestions but to no avail. Even reset my router, modem.... Now Verizon insisted on send me a certified like new replacement phone. Which I do not think solves the real problem and told them so. My phone is new and should work, but not with the updated software.

Verizon must fix this quickly....wifi/browsers do not work.. tried three browsers. all other devices in the house work fine. You better watch your data use because I found my phone using data even when wifi signal was strong on a known network.

Have you tried changing the settings on your router. Change the channel and frequency to a different number especially if it is on an auto setting.

I think its unlikely the router. I have tried two different routers at home, both have this problem. Also the problem exists at school (which is a better Wi-Fi system than my home one).

Not the router.....in addition to factory reset, have run phone in safe mode for 24 hours, does not work.

Problems in addition to wifi connectivity and browsers.

many apps do not work at all or are slow, freeze, or lag badly

backup and sync do not work 100%....glitches...I lost all settings, passwords, on factory reset even after backup.

and......I am seeing no advantages to the lollipop upgrade?

Same with me. I don't even use wifi as it is to frustrating. Just did factory reset hoping for a fix but....

Verizon support sent me a certified replacement phone which had android 4.4.2, so rather than upgrade to the new software, I will ride with the old. Even though this phone might upgrade without a hitch. After 5.0.1 experience, I am a happy camper.. I will continue to follow the forum and wait for the all clear before upgrading again.

If frustration get the best of you, try forcing the issue..on chat, under customer support.

Are you using Comcast Arris router/modem? If yes, Lollipop has some trouble with that kind of modems, not sure why. I tried other modems with wifi and they work fine. Comcast is sending me a different modem.

I do have that modem. What did you tell Comcast? I didn't know they had other modems.

The device worked before the update, and lollipop comes out and people on LG G3s all over this forum cannot operate with efficiency like we used to. What do you not understand? Your textbook-responses only serve to infuriate many users like myself who know for a fact this update is the culprit. What would make me happy is a link or an option to roll back to the old version while the kinks are being worked out with Lollipop.

Bingo, I kinda knew you are using the same modem as what I had. I rent Comcast modem so just asked for a different one. What I don't understand is why Google would come out with such a terrible operating system that would be so picky on the types/brands of modems. This stuff is supposed to be backward compatible meaning the modems exist earlier than Lollipop (and the modems aren't that old either).

Let me know if the new modem works. Slow or no wifi is very frustrating.

I have noticed that wi fi works better on some other networks? I have talked to Comcast and they did not suggest that alternative......but did reset the router/modem

Done that and it makes no difference. I continually get a message on my phone: "the wi fi network to which you are connected is not connected to the internet", yet my wifi signal is strong, and under settings it says it is connected.....and from my laptop in front of me at the time, I am surfing the internet....

You need to stop giving a lot of bad advice for this problem. e.g. factory reset, safe mode, bad apps, you even sent me a replacement phone,......and if you look, the internet chat rooms are full of the same issues....unsolved and frustrated. None of those things work!

Verizon Lollipop needs a "patch".......wifi at best lags, 15-30 secs to load a website, or not at all,,,,tried different browsers, reset router, and modem, called Xfinity...reset....It's the software! fix it! and be more transparent and open about the problem instead of sending us on wild goose chases. That just treats your customer like an idiot.

In addition to my other reply, when the phone says the wi fi is not connected, it shifts to data over Verizon network which has resulted in my data use doubling on a daily basis....so, I have turned off the data so that it will not do that. This means that when I am not getting text messages, and other benefits of data connection. But, I hope all of you who exceed your data plan will refuse to pay for the overruns....I will not overrun but I have no use of my phone either.

I absolutely agree, it is NOT the hardware problem, it is the software issue. If I was VZ, I would be holding Google accountable for all this. VZ customer service, please speak out for your customers, we have no counterpart in Google representing us but you do. Talk to your Google counterpart about these problems. Stop sending us useless instructions (such as reset, exchange phones etc), talk to Google pls, get us a working patch

I understand how you feel. Unfortunately, once the software has been updated we are unable to change it back to the previous software.

In many cases 3rd party applications that have not been updated to work properly with Lollipop, can cause the phone to work twice as hard to run them (even in the background when you're not using them) creating some issues. There may be situations where downloaded application developers do not immediately update their applications to support new versions of the OS. We recommend checking for any app updates in the Google Play store.

OMG, I am speechless

Guys after all, we are talking to "machines", all those responses from VZWSupport seem to come automatically... Not from real customers service personnel. Since we "clearly" addressed that we had wiped caches, power cycles thousands times, reset phones/exchanged phones, and problems still persist. BTW "handout" is developed by google so it should not count as a 3rd party app, I don't think. I guess we should stop wasting our time to post questions, they are NOT being read anyway.

The lollypop 5.0 upgrade is the problem. After numerous calls to verizon support, they offered to send me a replacement used phone. After i refused, telling them my phone is new and should work like new, they reminded me that in my "agreement" they can replace it with a used phone. I remind them that they advertise the phone to work, and it doesn't, because of something they did. Thats just downright malicious. I am in a position now to dump verizon. People need to demand whats right, if not, hit em where it hurts$$$.

The connection speeds have been improving. I wonder if it is because there is some caching that is going on in the background? Sites that I have already visited definitely load much faster. Still, some new sites that I visit have a pretty slow response initially. I've tried placing my phone in safe-mode. The lag for new sites still exists in safe-mode. Thanks for your help.

Certainly not an absolute fix, but a work around: I accidentally discovered in airplane mode that my wifi browser worked fine again. I have since simply disabled mobile data while at home/work and I get all notifications, Facebook is working as well as web browser. Perhaps this will work for someone else to alleviate some of the frustration while we wait for a real fix.

And you don't care for not receiving calls either

To clarify, I'm no longer in airplane mode, so I receive calls and messages fine. I just noticed that the wifi was working when I was in airplane mode, which gave me the idea to just disable mobile data which has produced the same result.

I appreciate your patience as we work to get this resolved. You mentioned that your phone is using cellular data when connected to WiFi. Let's make sure that the auto switch between wifi and cellular data is disabled http://www.verizonwireless.com/support/knowledge-base-110642/. This will prevent the phone from using data when connected to WiFi.

This worked for me. A workaround until Verizon fixes the problem they can't even identify. LOL

It is NOT our modem, it is NOT our router!!! It is the wifi button on the phone after the lollipop update. My LG G3 will not get my comcast POP3 email on wifi. I have 2 other devices set up on same router and they are fine. On the phone, I can turn off mobile data and surf the web just fine on wifi. My other email account on the phone is IMAP and it connects just fine!. My only temporary fix if I want to load my comcast mail on the phone is to turn off the wifi button and let it come in over data. The turn the wifi back on and read them. This is unacceptable! Someone should be able to figure this out. I am thinking it is a POP3 issue since I have visited other forums and it's not just Comcast. Please quit suggesting it is the modem or the router. It does not work with ANYONE'S modem or router. The only way to get the POP3 email is to turn off the wifi!!! You will also not be able to delete and re-add the account as Verizon and Comcast and LG have suggested. You can only add it back in if you do it using mobile data.

Also, I took Verizon's suggestion and did a factory reset and in the LG setup wizard, one of the first steps is to set up an email address (not the gmail one- they say that step comes later) So when I set up the POP3 account, Boom! All the email start coming in, but by the time the factory reset process is complete, the email is no longer able to connect. So it has to be the Lollipop software.

Great! Thanks so much for the insight. That is some great information. Do the pages that typically seem to load slow have more ad's ? Do these webpages load slow with Wi-Fi off as well?

Not your router , it's the damn Lollicrap update ! , You have to go back to Verizon, reflash to old kitkat... boom. So many issues with the wi-fi. , lol i just think verizon is doing another hidden agenda for Force their data over wi-fi. Won't be the first

I too experienced basically useless wifi connectivity. It is ridiculously slow, regardless of what website or app I use. I never had a problem before the Lollipop upgrade and all other phones, PCs, and my wife's iPhone work just fine with IPV6. My router is not the issue. When I test IPV6 capability sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I tried different forums on Reddit. I have done a factory reset, toggled CDMA/Global settings, changed wifi to turn on and off with the screen, nothing worked. The only way it seems is either root my new phone and isable IPV6 or wait for another update. Very unhappy.

Still can't use Wi-Fi. Been almost a month now.

I can’t explain this. First of all, I did not install any apps to resolve the wifi slowness as well as missing hangout notification in wifi. I did not get any new Lollipop updates, still at 5.0.1 . However, the two issues mentioned above went away suddenly. I have NO idea why… The only reason I can think of is Comcast did a patch to their router which makes everything works…. Any idea?

Sorry false alarm. The problem returns after a reboot... pls ignore what I said...

I am having the exact same problem... I can play videos just fine on 4G but when I use my xfinity router they will not play. Has to be the Lollipop / Router issue with communication. So frustrating! Just bought this phone and can't use wifi!

Firegirl, There is a different thread on this form which has a solution posted. It seems silly to have to install an app to resolve the issue, but it certainly resolved mine. It is an IPV6 issue with some routers. Comcast does not play nice with Android 5.0 Lollipop but Google’s on the case. http://phandroid.com/2015/05/13/comcast-wireless-gateway-lollipop-bug

My G2 is very slow with wifi. I have Comcast also. Verizon says they have never heard of any of these issues too. It Sucks! If anyone finds a fix, Please tell me.

These customer service reps don't have a clue. Same bullshit answers for everything. I have 3 tablets, 2 computers, an Xbox and my lg g3 running off my Wi-Fi. Guess which one is slow as piss. And so coincidently after the lollipop update.
