Here is what I had to do to get rid of the duplicates in messaging.
1. Go to Settings.
2. Go to Applications.
3. Go to Application manager.
4. Scroll the applications in the Application manager and find Message+.
5. Select Message+.
6. On the Message+ screen you'll see a "Clear Cache" button and a "Clear Data" button. Clicking these buttons will delete all current text messages, etc so if there are any you want to save you might want to find a way to back them up.
7. Click on the "Clear Cache" and "Clear Data" buttons.
8. Exit settings and start the Message+ app. Notice that it is starting up just like you are using it for the first time.
9. Create a new text message... Your contacts should be showing correctly now.
Hope this helps.
JC.

Hello Chris@1977! Duplicate contacts can be quite annoying and inconvenient. We'll help fix this asap. When did you first notice you had duplicate contacts? How long have you been using Verizon Messages? Is it all contacts, or only certain ones? We'll figure this out!

I have been using Message+ since it's inception. After I add a new contact
to my phone for calling purposes, when I use the Message+ app. All of the
contacts in message+ are in duplicate.

Chris@1977,
That is certainly concerning! We want to make sure everything with your app works just the way you need it to. So all contacts on the phone are duplicated every time you add a new contact? Is this the case when checking contacts in other apps on the phone? When did this start?

The only app that shows duplicate contacts is Message+. For example,if I
add a new contact to my phone calling contacts, when I want to send that
person a text message, all the contacts in Message+ have the name & number
in duplicate.

Chris@1977,
That would certainly concern me too. We want to make sure everything on your phone works just as it should. Is the app up to date? Have you tried uninstalling and installing the application fresh?

Appreciate you reaching out to us, jcutrer. This would drive me bonkers as well. To confirm, are the contacts you are referring to found under the main text thread page, and viewable when you select the Contacts tab?

i will hop in on this since no one is replying to Verizon for a fix. i am having been using Message+ since i got the Galaxy s5 last year. this started happening for me (only on my phone) after i downloaded the message+ desktop app on my computer. i saw that not all my contacts are on the desktop app (which is a problem as well) and every time i add a new contact, when i search for someone in message+ (phone) single contacts are multiplying. i have went to google contacts and made sure there are no dups and went through Verizon Cloud to do the same. all contacts are synced with cloud and google.

I have had several inquiries from Verizon tech support, but all they ask is
the same repeated questions. When I upgraded to Message+ from Verizon, every
time I add a new contact to my phone contact list whenever I try to send a
text message and use the search bar to pick contact, every contact comes up
in duplicate. Had originally spoke to tech. Support on the phone and was
told that they were aware of the problem and working towards a fix. That
was several months ago.

corprum,
Message+ is such a fun app to use. Our apologies it is duplicating your contacts for you. Let’s work together to fix this. In the app and on the desktop, are the same contacts duplicated? Do the two applications themselves match? Are there any patterns with the contacts that are duplicated like more that one phone number or email address?

Hello,
It is just on the phone i have dups. they are a carbon copy of each other but there are no dups in my contacts. the dups only show up when i am typing in the name of the person in a new message. the message+ desktop does not have all the contacts from my phone for some reason as well id say only about 20% of them.

I hear ya,sounds like the same problem I have only every contact in my
phone shows up twice when I use the search bar to select a contact in
message+. Still no response from Verizon (shocker)! Guess we'll just have
to live with it till it's time to upgrade.

corprum Let's avoid these duplicate contacts. Have you checked that the application has the latest version. Could you uninstall and re-install? When in contacts, select menu (three dots in the corner) then settings/Contacts to display. From here choose different options to see how your contacts have been saved. Your contacts have probably been saved to Google.

This is ridiculous. It's been a bug in all verizon messages builds since they updated the ui months ago. The duplicates are from linked contacts i.e. phone, Google, verizon cloud, etc. The duplicates only show when physically typing names to search for contacts; the contacts button/app recognizes linked contacts like every other android app.
With respect to your position Verizon Wireless Support and the fact you are willing to go out and actually get a job, please don't disrespect us anymore with the same "express understanding, next line in the troubleshooting guide" script that every customer has heard and gone through if they've asked Verizon for help with this. Please think before you post; we cannot uninstall/reinstall bloatware such as this app on a stock (non-rooted) phone.
Troubleshooting is unnecessary here. This is a programming bug. If the app developers can create such an [otherwise] complicated and amazing app then they are certainly more than familiar enough with the Android API to fix it. Please please just get this bug report to them, they'll know how to proceed and we can actually get an update with a fix.
Thanks in advance!
