How do I restore missing Google Play Store?

On my Samsung Galaxy S III, I noticed several weeks ago that I couldn't find the Google Play (suitcase icon) app but I've now investigated it thoroughly with no clue how to resolve. When I go to Settings -> Application Manager and look at All apps, it isn't listed, even at the bottom of the list like some posts said it might be if it was disabled. I don't understand how it can be removed when it is a system app and I didn't remove it so don't know what happened but now I can't search for/install any new apps. And, I do not want to have to go to a Verizon store or have my phone reset to factory. Any help is much appreciated.

It is now called simply "Play Store" and the icon is a white shopping bag with a multicolored play symbol (right pointing arrow/triangle). You should be able to find it when you click on the Apps icon (looks like s 4x4 grid of small white squares) on your home screen. It's not listed on the Application Manager.
