How do I turn on emergency alerts?

Living in tornado alley, having the emergency alerts was wonderful. It would wake me up in the middle of the night and allow for time to reach cover. Last night we had a tornado warning, but my emergency alerts no longer function with the update. I've looked at multiple different threads and youtube videos, following the directions, but the processes given are not a possibility for the system.

We do hope you and your family stay safe, thtrkat. I know how important those alerts are for you! Was the phone battery drained during the night? Was there any notification on the phone when you woke up regarding the alert? Our friend bearone21 has a great suggestion to double check that the update didn't change your alert settings. There's also the Safety Assistance feature http://www.verizonwireless.com/support/knowledge-base-99284/ to help get location-based notifications such as weather.
