I never downloaded EDO4 because of all the problems I have read about on this support forum...I have had that update available for q few months but have never taken the step to download....Now I read that the fix is out...EDO5...my question is: If I select the custtent available download, won't that merely give me EDO4 and all the problems or will it automatically skip EDO4 and take me directly to EDO5?

I was in the same boat, I did not do the ED04 update, and then today I did it, and it immediatly asked after that update finished if I wanted to do the ED05 update, which I also did.
So far so good, and I have not done a hard reset yet, I want to see if it is needed before I do it.

Well either way, you should do a factory reset after the update and that should square things away
