Can you still get OTA updates , can a app off the playstore do that?

Does it just mean that you put your stuff on it?

Thanks

Hi 4ktvs, that's a great question! I checked and there is a way to have your owner information displayed on the lock screen. They may have saved their name in the phone as Custom. This would still allow them to still receive updates. You can enter the owner info under Settings, Security, Owner Information. Make sure to also visit vzw.com/support for guides and info.

so I guess if someone gets a preowned phone that's in this state you can't tell someone what's going on with it or where to get information on it? because this happened to me once and if it were up to Verizon it would have been a useless 200 dollar Verizon exclusive phone, so Verizon just makes up fake answers to cover the fact that people do this? isn't that called lying and giving customers false information? I didn't tell anyone to do it, just that that may likely already have been done and where to find what it means being Verizon obviously won't...this is obviously not a community where people can rely on moderators for answers

My very forward and CLEAR answer was blocked by the moderator... so here is the cleanest way to tell you what has happened to your phone...

You have downloaded something from Google Play that acts as an administrator or something like that. When I experienced the same exact thing that you are describing it was related to an Anti-Virus program that I downloaded off of Google Play. This issue is well documented on other sites. I figured this out how to fix it after performing at least 8 to 10 factory re-sets and reinstalling the apps 1 app at a time. The Anti-virus program was fine and the phone didn't seem to be affected by it until I used the feature to lock my phone remotely and view it on a map. Once I did, I started getting the "boot screen" you got. That is the problem. You did nothing wrong.

lol that's along the lines of what I was trying to say too but I used a forbidden word in my post so got deleted too...there's quite a few apps in the play store that can cause it...I don't think what their talking about is a custom lockscreen name though lol

Yes apps off of the Play store CAN cause your phone to believe it has been modified although you didn't do it.
