I'm on my 2nd fascinate due to poor reception quality as well as freezing up when placing a phone call. Although I love this phone for alot of other reasons, I'm seriously considering replacing it with the Incredible. Can anyone give some feedback on what the differences are between these two phones? I'm just nervous to switch because I only have 1 more time to switch phones. It seems there's more complaints about the fascinate then the incredible.
Any advice would be great.
Also, for emails on the Incredible is there anyway to make the font bigger? on the facinate you can make it bigger if needed. On all other droids I've seen, you cant do that. Maybe an app was created to do this?

I have talked to a few Incredible owners, and the 1 thing they don't like about it is the battery life. They take it off the charger in the morning, and with moderate usage, they are charging it again around noon. Look at the comparison between the Fascinate and the Incredible online and you can see the differences.
I do not have any of those issues with my fascinate that you have had, is it because of location, or nad phones? What kind of apps are you loading on the device? That may have something to do with it also.

The biggest most annoying thing is for some reason when I talk into the phone it sounds a little bit like a megaphone. With this 2nd phone it's a bit better. The Mgr at Verizon actually admitted she had the same issue and it drove her crazy and she had to switch it out for a new one. Also, my screen keeps freezing up especially when trying to hang up a phone call.

i get the megaphone thing at times, i find that if i move the phone slighty it goes away.
i think its caused by being too close to the mic or something

I think you have a bad phone mine works great but battery drops off very quick. It dropped 12% over night with everything turned off in task manager. I charge 3-4 times a day while at home and just checking email and going on facebook to look at any new updates from friends.

I think this megaphone thing is a feature of this phone. I'm pretty convinced especially since the verizon tech told me she had the same problem. I'm wondering if I should switch to the Incredible but I'm sure that comes with it's own issues. Plus it seems you can't make the font bigger on that particular phone. The font size changing situation is great on this samsonite. As far as battery, mine isn't too bad. I only have to charge once a day.

In either case, you should learn battery-saving steps which will enable you to get a days use out of your phone. They should be on this forum or androidforums. Are you using the power control widget?

If you have the Fascinate, you can do most of that by dragging down the notification bar since it has wifi, bluetooth and gps toggles.

Hey frank,
Without undue use (eg mobile hotspot or streaming), I believe a day's use should be standard. After you are changing your settings, are you getting that?

That's good--I thought it was pre-installed like Motorola but according to the manual, it's not. If it is in the market, it's handy and useful. Glad it is helpful. I don't see that you have in "Settings", "About phone">"Battery". If you did, it would list in order, what features are using your batttery the most. Normally, the display takes the most power--so automatic brightness or dimming helps. Next in usage should be your radios. That is why turning off wi-fi and bluetooth when not in use will increase your battery life. I don't see that the Fascinate allows you to turn off your 3g radio when not in use. I see that you can disable background data and disable automatic sync and disable location services, but no one-click "off". There should be a "3g off'on" on widget or app in the market. If you have a weak 3g signal where you use your phone, that will kill your battery when turned on so adjusting to that is very helpful. Let me know how it goes.

Please draw your own conclusions from the following:
On this Verizon Forum, there are sections for droid phones. Each section has some number of
pages with people asking for help, having issues, venting about problems, etc etc.
The following phones have the following number of pages with the above:
Droid X 104 pages
Incredible 60 pages
Droid 2 27 pages
Fascinate 23 pages
So based on this, one could argue the Fascinate has the fewest number of current
complaints and issues. ( Yes, this does not take into account total number of phones sold,
people who are even aware of this forum, etc. etc. etc. )
My point would be the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence...but maybe not.
All these phones have some legitimate issues, some are simply user errors.
Hopefully all will receive patches and Android updates over time.
I have 3 Fascinates since Sept 9th when they were released. All work fairly well and now
work even better with the DL09 update.
Hopefully we'll get 2.2 and that will make them even better.

My roommate has the DroidX and often gets less wifi signal than my fascinate. I'll be surfing along and he'll be waiting for the signal.... I've done a lot of research on phones, etc.. and was dead set on the Droidx, then when I got this in hand I didn't want the X.

herbb, very interesting. thanks for that info. this forum is really great. yes, i hear you about the grass is greener. my luck i'll get the incredible and something will be quirky with that and there ya have it. i'm stuck with it. i do really love this fascinate and the internet is awesome which is why i got rid of the blackberry.
so with all that being said. you mentioned an available update. is this something that i need to be downloading? is it an app? this is why this forum rocks because i'm not that savvy with this phone stuff. let me know about any updates i should be getting taking this phone out of the box.
THANK YOU ALLLLLLL so very much!

On your phone.
Press Menu.
Press Settings.
Press 'About Phone.'
Press System Updates'.
Press 'Check New".
If an update is available, it will tell you and you can download and install.
On same About screen....Look at Baseband Version..
S:i500.04 V.DL09 is the latest offical Fascinate version.
If you dont have that..the steps above should put it on your phone for you.
If you already have it....DL09.....then you have latest version already.

I had a speaker issue as well. My end was crystal clear but others on the other end of the cal said I sounded like I was in a tunnel. A very strong wind tunnel, which resulted in allot of callers yelling at me while talking because they thought they had to because of background noise. I returned the phone within 3 days. The new phone was much improved and the issue resulted in quite simply a very sensitive speaker and microphone .
