Intermittently not receiving text messages, regardless of Texting app used. Is it my phone?

I have been having this problem for over a month. It will send text messages to people and I won't hear back from them, then I will text them again and they'll send me a screen capture showing they did reply to me, but I'm not getting the message. It did this on Handcent, Stock messaging app and now with Textra Messaging app. There doesn't seem to be a rhyme or reason, it just seems to do it randomly. I've gone through soft resets, removing and reinstalling apps, deleting things... None of it seems to help.@

I'm very sorry your having these issues. I would be frustrated too. Does it only happen indoors? What zip code are you in? Do you have any problems with calls?

I haven't noticed that it only happens indoors, it seems to happen regardless of location: inside or outside. It's happened in the car, inside my home, at work, etc... My zip code is 50309 and surrounding areas.

Thanks for getting back to us. I'm not showing problems in the area. Does your device drop alot of calls? Please power the device off remove and reinsert the sim card. then retest using the stock application.

You guys skipped over my question that came before this question so I would appreciate it if you guys would answer my question. FYI, im considering swiching to T-mobile extremely highly because of the lack of customer support I have been getting in the last 2 years.

I am grief stricken to hear you want to leave us Y_Kashani, and I apologize we have not replied sooner. We take pride in our customer experience and I am horrified to hear we let you down. I did review the thread, but I did not see a question. How can I help?

Hi there. Did you ever figure out what's going on? I've been having this issue too for the last couple months. I usually use MySMS for texting. Tough to know exactly how much it's happening, which makes it even more frustrating. The texts people send that I don't get right away never come through. I've tried troubleshooting w/ a chat rep a couple times and they "reset" things on their end, but it's still happening.

Pandora427 and DJCosmo -
I had the same problem you have - I couldn't receive MMS messages (pic or group messages). I didn't have trouble sending them, but I always wondered why I wasn't receiving responses.
I trouble-shooted with Verizon for nearly 2 months - sim replacement, device replacement, network reset, profile rebuild on Verizon and I even had Apple software engineers involved... nobody could fix the problem....
One day, a Verizon Tier 2 specialist was looking at things and even though I didn't have Phone/Message blocking enabled myself (through My Verizon), there was something on the backend (Verizon side) where simply because the feature was part of my plan it was blocking my messages due to an error.
Don't know if this will help you guys at all, but after months of frustration it actually was something simple for my case. Good luck to you both!

Interesting. Were you receiving any text messages? It only happens intermittently for me. Most of the time, it's fine, but then every now and then someone will contact me later on or via another method and be like, "Helloooooo? Where'd you go?" And then, they'll forward texts they'd sent previously that I didn't get. So frustrating!

I could receive SMS messages just fine from any android user and all iMessage (iOS) messages worked perfect... But any MMS messages like picture or video messages or group messages would intermittently work or be delayed by 2-4 days before I would receive them.

I was receiving some or most texts, but the same thing where people would show me later they texted me and I didn't ever receive it. Annoying and especially the lack of any help besides things I have already tried.

Yeah, I know what you mean on the help. Verizon wasn't very helpful and I was told it was 1,000 different things until they blamed it on reception in my calling area which I knew was total BS... So I was determined to prove them wrong. Either way, the fix ended up being a glitch and I'm guessing I was just lucky but I was definitely given the run around 10x over in order to get it resolved.

And you said you had the issue even when you didn't have any third party texting apps installed, right? I'm seeing if getting rid of MySMS helps, but if you had the issue with and without third party apps, then I don't have much hope that will help solve the problem.

@Pandora427
It’s important to me that you’re able to receive all of your text messages on your wireless device. I would love the opportunity to assist.
What model device are you using? When did this problem begin? Have you tested your text messages with the MySMS texting app uninstalled and with using the default messaging application only? Please keep me posted.

I am having the same problem. I recently changed carriers to Verizon but now do not receive all text messages. Seems to be messages from specific iPhone users. I have Galaxy S6.

Getting your messages is a must. What make and model phone did you have before? Do your friends with iPhones have send as sms and mms turned on? Are they using imessage? Do all your messages go through in a timely manner to all the other phones? Do you have you mobile data turned on all the time?

I previously had an Iphone 5S. I still have it and it is still working, even though I don’t need it. The salesperson told me it would go off from the Iphone in about a week. However, that is the way I learned I wasn’t getting some messages on the Samsung Galaxy S6. Yes my friends have sms and mms turned on. I don’t know what Imessage is, but they use the standard message application that comes with Iphones. All of my messages go through to them but their response doesn’t come through on the Samsung ever. I have mobile data turned on all the time.
Thanks,
Careen

Update - the "fix" for me was to go into the settings of my old IPhone that I still have and turn off anything relating to messages and text. Now I get all my text on my Samsung from IPhone users.

Thanks for your input Careen. DJCosmo, have you been able to try any of the troubleshooting that this thread has given? Are you still having the issue?

Hard to say if anything has worked since I only know if I’m missing texts from other people. I haven’t heard complaints lately, but who knows. It’s a really frustrating problem and the longer I have this phone the more irritating glitches pop up with it. Eventually, it’s gonna oops it’s way into traffic and I’ll be looking for a new service provider or phone at the very least… not sure I can stay with Verizon if they can’t make their service more reliable or help customers when they’re not. Just for reference, I feel like you should just direct me to the nearest service center since this forum is just shy of doing nothing but making more irritated that it’s even a problem. It’s not just 1 person, it’s many and apparently our fault. Riiiight….
