I accidently deleted a folder of photos (instead of an individual one) from the SD card. Is there a way to recover them?
No, I'm not the famous one. No "s" on the end of my name!
I tried Wondershare's Dr. Fone for Android but could not get it to load the necessary driver. Their "support" has been totally unresponsive!
I then tried Stellar Phoenix' Photo Recovery. It worked as advertised and the photos have been recovered.

One possibility is to power down, remove the sd card, put it in a sub card reader and run this:

Another possibility is using Wonderware Dr Fone
There may be an Android app.
USB card reader... sometimes I hate auto correct.

Unfortunately, we were in Europe and had data disabled while we were there so, no backup.

The important thing if you are going to try one of these repair approaches is to avoid any writes to the SD Card. Remove it, and put another in it's place until you attempt to recover the deleted files.
My understanding is that when files are deleted, the filesystem marks a special area to say the space is available. If nothing writes over that space, data recovery (partial, possibly full) is possible. If writes to the SD Card occur, the data loss may be irreversable...
