Key pad and touch screen freezes up since new 2.2 Update

Can anyone help me?  I go to type a message, or to search the web, or simply try and navigate through my phone and the touch screen simply does not work.  I will touch it and nothing happens.  It is frozen.  How do I fix this? Has anyone else had this issue?

Simplest and safest thing to try first:

turn off phone if you can.  If you cannot, thats OK.

Remove back cover.  Remove battery.

Wait couple minutes. Put battery back in and cover on.

Turn phone on. Test.

Does the screen do anything when it freezes? Mine has been freezing and either getting really bright or lately going completely black with just a few colorful lines across the screen. Im on a replacement phone that I got 4 days ago and it has been doing it since out of the box. Got another replacement on the way....

How can this be an accepted solution?  Sure it gets the phone back into an operational condition. But it does not FIX the bug or give any adea as to how to prevent the problem.

Somebody please provide a real solution!

I agree with SamsungUser1, This is NOT an acceptable solution. Since getting 2.2 my phone has consistently frozen, the screen turns a bright white (as if the brightness was increased to full), and then the screen starts getting lines across it and over a period of a few minutes progressively gets worse. Took the phone to a Verizon store just after one of its episodes (the second time that that had happened that day). The rep saw the phone, and quickly proceeded to order me a replacement, which I just activated yesterday, and has the SAME ISSUE! Seems like I've had nothing but issues with this phone, before getting 2.2 it would just freeze and that would be it. I will never buy another Samsung phone again. Had the Omnia, it had issues; had the i730, it had issues. :smileysad: Had other brands of phones that I never had an issue with. The next droid I get will be a HTC or Motorola, PERIOD. Unless I migrate to the iPhone..........

My husband and I both have the phone and since the update weird things have been happening, I just got my 2nd replacement because of the lines, 10 times in 5 days, hopefully this one won't do it.  My husband also has his flash going off for no reason.  Crazyness...

  Does it ever start responding? Mine will sometimes just hang, and if I do not press any buttons, about 20-30 seconds later, it comes back to life, and does all the things I told it to do while I was pressing all the buttons...

  I have yet to do a hard reset after the update, I have been holding off doing that to make sure that it is the proper course of action, and that it is not a waste of time. Most of the problems I have seen here have not been fixed with a hard reset, so that may not be the correct action, but it might not hurt.

  What else is running, do you have it connected to your Facebook account? I have heard others say that with it connected to theirs, it SSSSLLLLLLOOOOOOWWWWWWSSSSSS down thir phone. Once they removed their account, it started responding fine.

 Just a thought.

I am experiencing the same thing...no suggestions but thought I would add my two cents for this problem.  I find this very frustrating...hate to say it but I had no issues prior to the update.

ttttThis 2.2 update is garbage. I was already having problems with the phone freezing before the update , now its worse. The battery life got worse. And I called Verizon , and they told me that they could swap out my Fasinate with a First generation Droid by Motorola. Thats some messed up {word filter avoidance}

I'm having the same problem! How is it that this thread shows up as "Solved" when there's clearly no solution provided??

Try the factory data reset. I had those issues before, along with a few others.
