Lock screen unlock effect

I don't know how I did it, but I cannot change the Unlock effect.  It's ghosted out.  Right now it's at Light effect.  I just got the phone recently and was using the Settings features for personalizing it.  Not sure what to do.  Is there a way to un-ghost it so I can choose between, Light effect, Ripple effect, and None?

That feature is not available with all screen locks.  For example, it is available if you have your screen lock set to swipe; it's not available if you have the screen lock set to PIN.

Here is more info.  We had two phones upgraded to the S4. Both have the same the Screen lock setting to swipe.  On my phone, the effect to unlock is a ripple effect, you swipe the screen and it creates water like ripples.  On hubby's phone it's a light effect, you swipe the screen and sun-like rays appear, but he cannot change it.

I went to Settings, My device, Lock screen, and under Swipe options, the Unlock effect is where you can choose between; Ripple effect, Light effect, or none.  I can access the choices, but on hubby's, it's ghosted out with the choice of Light effect.

Do I need to go to a VZ store for them to fix it?  Or do I need to do a factory reset?

How odd.  If both devices are set to a screen lock of swipe, then the ripple/light effects should be available.  Have you tried rebooting the phone?

Tried it.  Did not work.  I even shut down and left it off for about 5 minutes.  It's still grayed/ghosted out.

The only other thing I can think to try is from something I read on another forum.  Someone said they were using a live wallpaper for their lock screen and it caused the ripple/light effects to be grayed out.  Once they switched back to a stock wallpaper, it appeared again.

It worked, sort of.  Used a different wallpaper image and was able to switch it to the ripple effect.  I chose the live wallpaper and it had the Lights effect instead.  I then chose a live wallpaper that came with the phone.  Even though it was grayed-out, the effect showed Ripple, but it uses Lights.  My guess it's Live wallpaper that will automatically default to using Lights effect, and you can't change it.  Bummer.

At least our confusion/frustration on the issue is resolved.  Thank you for your help.

You're welcome; glad it worked out, sort of.     I wish some of these lock screen effects were available with other lock choices, like PIN or password.
