Lollipop 5.1.1

It's February 2016. Why is my S5 still running lollipop 5.0??!!!! It was supposed to be updated last year, but the only update was a security patch in December. Meanwhile the memory leak in version 5.0 is STILL causing apps to constantly restart in the background, draining my battery in the process. I take my phone off the charger and 10 minutes later it's lost 5%. By the time I get to work I'm down to 80% battery life. This makes no sense why S5 owners are still waiting for an update that other products have received. And please don't tell me to go to the update page to check for updates because all that tells me is I got a security patch in December and not when I will get 5.1.1!!!!!

I've had the same question. I know the Android market is fragmented but this is beyond ridiculous. Will likely never buy another Android phone unless it's a Nexus and definitely not buying from Samsung. I read that the new capability in Marshmallow that allows you to treat your SD card like internal memory is deliberately disabled on the S7. Let the customer decide. I'm sure this isn't the first post related to this issue. Verizon should set some sort of expectation and improve the release cycle. Any chance all the extraneous bloatware on the phones can be removed so there's less to QA in the first place and the customer can have a supported clean experience?

i'm betting you charge the phone while on & various apps are continually updating all day long & why you see the drop of 5% after removing the charging cable & down to 80% a short time later.

Ikr this is [removed] Verizon I'm paying [removed] near $300 dollars a month on a 2 year contract on this laggy S5 and ya"ll want even send out a update for the phone last software update was March 2015 this a shame all the other carriers are updated what's seem the be the problem your losing customers Verizon losing us man I really like being with ya'll but I'm wasting money cause you seem to don't care about us or how we feel either update the phone soon or I'm leaving if anyone reads this and feel the same way i do i suggest you do the same.

And our security patch is dated November! I would appreciate the update to 5.1.1, but I actually would prefer the monthly security updates be released. Samsung releases them to the carriers on a monthly basis, unfortunately Verizon connives the phone manufacturers (Apple aside) to load the phone with ridiculous amounts of bloatware (and remove useful features, like the fm radio, Samsung's ad-blocking Web browser, the ability to adjust the minimum screen auto brightness, etc), which causes a lot of software issues for the device, and in turn delays the updates or breaks the phone. I really dislike that about Verizon.

Where is your proof the security updates are released to the carriers on a monthly basis?

Well, this is from Samsung's website. "In 2015, Samsung began working with major industry partners and operators to distribute monthly Android security updates on select Samsung Galaxy devices. Samsung has extended their security commitments to now include over 100 countries. These critical security updates include both Android core and Samsung specific security patches. This can give the global customer base assurances they will receive security updates in a timely manner to maximize device security and productivity."

And we received the security update for November 2015 in late December 2015, which is fast for a Verizon update. They are the ones who are holding the security updates back. I certainly trust that Samsung has released the updates to Verizon, but now Verizon has to test the firmware to correct any bugs that are caused in their bloatware, and update their bloatware to the latest version, and make sure they remove other useful features (fm radio, ad-blocking Samsung web browser [and the ability to go to the Play Store to install it], auto brightness range of adjustment, etc.) every month. I guess they really don't dedicate the staff to do so.

Verizon Wireless doesn't touch the code to remove anything or change anything. It is Samsung that has to dedicate personnel to updating the code to incorporate the security updates. Samsung might have gotten the first few security updates out the door quickly, but that doesn't mean they continued to do so.

Verizon sending out an Security Patch isn't gonna stop my phone apps for crashing or stop it for freezing nor stop apps for lagging when i launch them to play them I've did everything to try and fix my phone for experiencing these problems I wipe cache partition cleared Cache uninstalled apps factory reset more than once and still having these problems send out an Software Update key word Software not Security Patch I'm giving ya'll to much money each month to not be satisfied If you guys don't get with the program I'm canceling my contract and going to AT&T i want unlimited data anyway so If you guys keep this up you will lose customers.

When will you all realize that we will never see 5.1.1. When a minor update is due out, 90% of the time they instead roll that into the next major Android release (M) resulting in a 16 month wait. We instead get thse little security patches every now and then but thats it..

Please quit posting about "when are we getting X.X.X. Just accept the fact that 90% of the time you will never see the same version update that other carriers have already released. Especially with the Verizon failed roll out of 5.0.

They are so afraid of screwing up they decide it's easier to incorporate all the updates into the next major OS release 16 months later. It is what it is..
