It's February 2016. Why is my S5 still running lollipop 5.0??!!!! It was supposed to be updated last year, but the only update was a security patch in December. Meanwhile the memory leak in version 5.0 is STILL causing apps to constantly restart in the background, draining my battery in the process. I take my phone off the charger and 10 minutes later it's lost 5%. By the time I get to work I'm down to 80% battery life. This makes no sense why S5 owners are still waiting for an update that other products have received. And please don't tell me to go to the update page to check for updates because all that tells me is I got a security patch in December and not when I will get 5.1.1!!!!!

I've had the same question. I know the Android market is fragmented but this is beyond ridiculous. Will likely never buy another Android phone unless it's a Nexus and definitely not buying from Samsung. I read that the new capability in Marshmallow that allows you to treat your SD card like internal memory is deliberately disabled on the S7. Let the customer decide. I'm sure this isn't the first post related to this issue. Verizon should set some sort of expectation and improve the release cycle. Any chance all the extraneous bloatware on the phones can be removed so there's less to QA in the first place and the customer can have a supported clean experience?

so what, it's not internal memory, it's a removable sd card.
number6:
usb or wall charger?? usb/pc charging is worthless.
i'm betting you charge the phone while on & various apps are continually updating all day long & why you see the drop of 5% after removing the charging cable & down to 80% a short time later.

And our security patch is dated November! I would appreciate the update to 5.1.1, but I actually would prefer the monthly security updates be released. Samsung releases them to the carriers on a monthly basis, unfortunately Verizon connives the phone manufacturers (Apple aside) to load the phone with ridiculous amounts of bloatware (and remove useful features, like the fm radio, Samsung's ad-blocking Web browser, the ability to adjust the minimum screen auto brightness, etc), which causes a lot of software issues for the device, and in turn delays the updates or breaks the phone. I really dislike that about Verizon.

Where is your proof the security updates are released to the carriers on a monthly basis?

Well, this is from Samsung's website. "In 2015, Samsung began working with major industry partners and operators to distribute monthly Android security updates on select Samsung Galaxy devices. Samsung has extended their security commitments to now include over 100 countries. These critical security updates include both Android core and Samsung specific security patches. This can give the global customer base assurances they will receive security updates in a timely manner to maximize device security and productivity."
And we received the security update for November 2015 in late December 2015, which is fast for a Verizon update. They are the ones who are holding the security updates back. I certainly trust that Samsung has released the updates to Verizon, but now Verizon has to test the firmware to correct any bugs that are caused in their bloatware, and update their bloatware to the latest version, and make sure they remove other useful features (fm radio, ad-blocking Samsung web browser [and the ability to go to the Play Store to install it], auto brightness range of adjustment, etc.) every month. I guess they really don't dedicate the staff to do so.

Verizon Wireless doesn't touch the code to remove anything or change anything. It is Samsung that has to dedicate personnel to updating the code to incorporate the security updates. Samsung might have gotten the first few security updates out the door quickly, but that doesn't mean they continued to do so.

Before lollipop 5.0 my battery lasted all day. After the update it lasted about 3 hours. It stabilized for a while then the security patch happened and it went back to lasting 3-4 hours. I noticed there was an update yesterday, but STILL not the update lollipop 5.1.1. I don't understand why you can't update the S5 to the most current OS especially when other Samsung products have been.
And all of my apps are currently updated. Yesterday was the first time in I don't even know how long that the charge lasted 8+hours. But then the security patch happened and it's sitting on the charger after 4 hours of LIGHT use.

Numbers6, we want you to get the most out of the battery life on your device. Have you downloaded 3rd party applications to your phone? If so, did you update the software for those applications, as well? Have you powered your device off/on since updating the software on your phone?

Perfect Number6! Good information to know. Have you also placed your S5 in Safe Mode? http://vz.to/1eYO79i If so, does that extend your battery life? Do you have a Best Buy near by with Samsung representatives that can run some diagnostics? Have you had a chance to call in or contact us so that we can run some diagnostics? http://vz.to/1ExQF3c

When will you all realize that we will never see 5.1.1. When a minor update is due out, 90% of the time they instead roll that into the next major Android release (M) resulting in a 16 month wait. We instead get thse little security patches every now and then but thats it..
Please quit posting about "when are we getting X.X.X. Just accept the fact that 90% of the time you will never see the same version update that other carriers have already released. Especially with the Verizon failed roll out of 5.0.
They are so afraid of screwing up they decide it's easier to incorporate all the updates into the next major OS release 16 months later. It is what it is..

Drunder39, new software can certainly be exciting and I know that many of us look forward to the new additions. Is there something specific that we may assist with for your device?

Nope i'm good.. Just trying to help reduce your workload with all the "When will we be getting MM or 5.1.1" type questions. After this long I can't believe folks just don't get it.. I have been a Verizon customer for over 8 years and I never never expect any update within a reasonable time frame.. and when it does happen (5.0), I end up paying for a phone and service that is marginally usable at best for a few more months until the issues get resolved..
Just love it!!!

There are other choices in carriers you know....why stick to one you get marginal use from? Unless.....you're comfortable knowing what to expect since sometimes knowing what you'll deal with is better than the unknown.

Yes I know that.. unfortunately Verizon is the only usable signal in my area (I am in the middle of woods). Not perfect but usable. I have tested others and no luck..
And WiFi calling is great but when I head out to town for whatever, still need a signal for phone and 4G or 3G for data.
No biggie though.. I for one don't ever go seeking out updates..When I get the notice then great.. it is what it is..
