My S6 loses data connection whenever on a phone call. I have HD voice enabled on my account and on my phone. What else do I need to do?

Try turning OFF the HD voice - it may be dropping the call if signal isn't strong enough, and HD isn't available consistently. Does service improve if HD is OFF?

You need HD voice turned on and you need an LTE connection at the time of your call If you want data services during a call.

This started happening to me recently also. Advanced calling is enabled, both HD voice and video, and network type is set to LTE/CDMA. If I restart my phone it works for a while and then it goes back to 1x when making a phone call instead of staying on 4g.

It has also over heated since the first day I had it. I actually have the
Gs7 edge that I pre-ordered back in February and received in march. It's
overheating so much that it will freeze and I cant even restart!! Ive
actually got burns on my skin from the temp of the phone. It gets hot
immediately after I open up the camera for Snapchat anything that has to do
with photos any type of music basically any program that I try to open
regardless of whether I stop the other ones from running in the background
I've also turned off the automatic updates nothing has worked and every
time I called Verizon they just tell me that it shouldn't be a problem but
I've never heard from anyone since for this phone to be as expensive as it
is and my phone will be close to $400 a month this is actually ridiculous
and I don't know if it's just because I received the first version first
set that went out after the pre order but even so someone should have
reached out and contacted me after all the times that I've actually reached
to them.

A lot! As soon as I open my Gallery, my Camera app (which I get 1 maybe 2
pictures at a time before it freeze on me) all music app, Google Maps,
Navigation, my XM SIRIUS, most of them. My boyfriend told me to add the
360° battery booster which helped some but not much. It does show me the
temperature of the phone and which apps are causing it mostly. The temp is
usually 108°- 120° no exaggeration then once a day I have to completely and
restarted at least 5 times in the morning not to mention how many times I
do it at night because whatever application I'm using it will just Freeze
and stop playing and then the phone just automatically heats up and I have
to shut everything down. When I'm at work I'm not supposed to be on my
phone but I use It to listen to my music applications. I get in trouble a
lot because they think I'm using the phone but I'm only trying to fix it. I
haven't even been able to use my virtual reality glasses because the phone
gets too hot for it to function through the glasses. I always wind up
having to stop using the glasses stop the application let the phone cool
off shut it down and shut it off completely for about 10 to 15 minutes and
then I could resume using my phone but it doesn't work through my glasses
because of the overheating so basically I bought this phone for the virtual
reality glasses and have not been able to even utilize them and also
increasing the amount of money I pay per month because of the type of phone
that I have on top of paying for a phone that doesn't work and I have
physical burns on my body to prove.

I too have had this issue twice already in the past week. I fixed it by going to HD voice, then turn it off and then back on. It seemed to have corrected the problem but it reoccured this morning. My fix worked again. I frankly don't think anything is wrong with my phone. I've noticed this problem since switching to a new verizon XL 16gb plan on the 22nd.

Thanks! I'll give that a try. I did switch to a 12gb plan in the last 60 days so it may be related to that. I didn't have the problem before the plan change.

Third day in a row! Very annoying but at least my workaround solves the issue, but having to change a setting every time I turn on my data connection when I didn't have to before is frustrating. If that's part of the new plan so be it. But I don't have to like it.

More signal is needed to maintain a HD Voice call than one placed on the 1x network.
I'm wondering if it is just a weak signal issue?

It is not a weak signal issue. If it indeed was, switching hd voice off and on would have no effect. This is, as I have already said, is a SOFTWARE issue. It is directly a result of switching my plan. It's not the fault of my phone. I'd like Verizon to respond.

I may have found a fix, at least its worked for me so far. I cleared my system cache on Saturday and have yet to drop to 1x when making a phone call.
For those of you who don't know how to do this here is a link that shows you the steps. Scroll down to the part that says "How to wipe the system cache on the Galaxy S6"

Unfortunately the fix you suggested did not solve the issue for me. I ran a test this morning and connected to my phone's hotspot and then made a call...the phone went right to 1X. This must be a software glitch tied-in with so called "safety mode", where they throttle your data bandwidth down to "save" you money. This is a direct result of my switch to their new plan and I'm not happy.

GARDENSPIDER63,
I’m disappointed to learn you’re experiencing issues with losing your data connection on your calls. I know this function of your device is important and you rely heavily on it to work. I want to make sure you always have the best service experience with us and I’ll be proud to get this fixed for you. We have not seen this being an issue from switching to our New Verizon plan pricing. We can further troubleshoot to find the root cause of the problem and get it resolved. Is your device’s software up to date? Do you have Safety Mode enabled? Have you removed the SIM card http://vz.to/25IyI2W

Software is up to date..safety mode is NOT enabled. No, i haven't removed my samsung s6 sim card, nor do I see the need to do that. I already tried wiping the system cache and that did nothing.

GARDENSPIDER63 Thanks for taking the time to complete these steps. We’ll get this resolved. Complete this next step for us. Go in to your device settings, advanced calling (turn off). Wait two minutes turn back on and restart your phone.

Ok problem is back so clearing the system cache did not work for me as I originally thought it was a fix. Data is once again dropping to 1x when making voice calls. Restarting the phone fixes the issue temporarily but after a few hours or a day it goes back to 1x when making voice calls.
This is definitely a software issue that happened with the last software update.
