MMS over WiFi

I understand to send MMS (pictures/group messages) you need a data plan and have to be connected to the mobile network. However, whenever I am at home or work, and I happened to be connected to the local WiFi network, I am unable to send group messages, pictures or anything that's classified as MMS. When I hit send, all I see is the picture or message labelled as "sending." It eventually times out, and I get an notification that it has failed. However, whenever I restart my phone or take myself off WiFi, the MMS is able to send.
Anybody else having this issue? I shouldn't have to take myself off WiFi or reboot my phone to send MMS....
Thanks,

Its not an issue ... mms can only be sent with mobile data not wi-fi because it is a part of your phone number . It has always been like that.

If i mis-understood you should be able to send mms because my s iii automatically turns on my data and then turns it off aftrr sending the mms make sure a battery saving app isnt disabling your mobule data after connecting to wifi

What setting are on your phone because my SIII used to automatically switch and send the MMS even when I'm on wifi at home but no longer does (as of 3 days ago)? I haven't changed any settings that I'm aware of.

sorry, i should have clarified. i realize you need data to send, but once i'm at home/work, and i'm connected to wifi, it won't let me send MMS. i can receive MMS all day long anywhere...but it fails to send when I'm on WIFI

While some phones do have problems switching to send the MMS, what I typically see it that the user has turned off mobile data while on WiFi. This is not necessary, most data will default to the WiFi connection, with the exception of very few things (though MMS is one of those).
