It was a long trek to get 6.01 apps all updated but now I'm down to the last issue. Maps works fine when WiFi is turned off. With it on, search does not work, navigation does not work, nothing. Have 3 different error messages. 1 = No Network Connection, can't connect to network, check your data connection and try again. 2 = Can't connect to Maps, try again in a few minutes. 3 = Can't Search ( comes up in a small bubble on top of the Google Maps overlay.
I have removed Maps and reinstalled, cleared network settings, powered the phone off, reset the phone, powered my WiFi down, tried different WiFi. Nothing has worked so far. If I need to use Maps sitting at my house, I have to turn off WiFi. Bluetooth on or off has no impact.
Suggestions short of factory reset are appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention, gerrym52. It is our goal to narrow this down and find exactly what may be causing this issue with the maps app. I’m happy to assist.
Have you attempted to power the phone up in safe mode? I have the steps you can take here http://vz.to/20hx6cC Even with the update son all the apps, there may be a third party feature that is causing an interruption with the maps app on wifi. We will be available and ready to help once chance additional details. Thank you for being the best part of Verizon.

Thanks for the quick response SteveR_VZW.
I have booted my Verizon S6 into SAFE mode and have the exact same issue, Maps does not work on WiFi. All other devices on my home network have Maps that work just fine. This morning my wife's S6 and my son's... which updated to MarshMallow 6.01 2 days ago, I noticed has the exact same issue, i.e. on WiFi Maps will not search or update any map. Did not test her phone or my son's in SAFE mode but can do that if it would help. I'm doubting it will. I look forward to your next suggestion.

That does seem very odd to hear, gerrm52 I want to make sure that the GPS function is working the correct way while on or off w-fi service. Have you been able to test the GPS services with any other navigation applications from the Google Play Store? Do you have any kind of weather application on the phone? If so, does that pick up your correct location while connected to wi-fi? Please keep us posted.

Google Maps is the only app I have for navigation and it does not work when I'm on WiFi. Gmail and my Google Drive do not work unless I turn off WiFi. Google Maps also does not work on Wifi even in SAFE mode. If I switch off WiFi the phone works fine on Verizon's service. GPS location utilities work fine when I'm on WiFi, like GPS Test Plus. It can narrow down a 3D fix quite easily, while just sitting at a large bay window in my dining room.

Your efforts in testing are greatly appreciated gerrym52. I use my maps all the time and if I wasn’t able to do so on WiFi, I’d go over my data. Let’s just test one other thing here. Please download some other type of app that would require GPS, maybe like GrubHub (which is a food ordering app) or a weather app. Test that, and keep us posted.

Installed GrubHub and it was able to find my correct location via GPS. Not a problem. Right afterward I asked Google Maps to search for one of the restaurants listed in GrubHub and it could not. Asked Google Maps to find my hometown in a search, it could not. The search indicator spins and about 15-20 seconds into the search, Google Maps pops up a small grey box that says 'Can't Search'. If I turn off WiFi and go on my Verizon connection Maps instantly starts working.

I appreciate you trying that gerrym52. Lets keep working to make sure this is resolved. Have you tested this while connected to a different WiFi connection?

I have tried my S6 on a couple of other WiFi access points and it seems to do okay. So I am now thinking there is in fact something unique about the way Marshmallow has configured this phone. Prior to this Marshmallow upgrade I had not issues with my S6 on my WiFi. My WAP is part of a TP-Link C3200 802.11ac router. I have 5 other Android devices that work fine on this router, as do my various laptops. I believe there is little doubt this is unique to the Verizon S6 upgrade to Android 6.01 and my very current WAP. I have not reason to suspect my C3200, there is something about this Android build preventing its function on my C3200.

I appreciate all of the information you have provided to us .There are a couple things that stand out to me from all the details you have given. “Gmail and my Google Drive do not work unless I turn off WiFi.” “I have tried my S6 on a couple of other WiFi access points and it seems to do okay.” There appears to be a connection with applications that use Google services and connecting from your home Wifi. It is very possible that your home router is blocking the connection (generally referred to as a port) that Google needs to connect to its services. Have you tried contacting your router manufacturer for assistance in making sure the router is not blocking certain ports?

Hi there MidasHands.
Being able to use Maps is important, and of course using anything via Wi-Fi is a help. Have you tried to reset your network settings? Try going to Settings> Backup/reset> Network Settings Reset> Reset Settings. This doesn't delete anything from your device, but it will require that you set Wi-Fi up again.

My router functions PERFECTLY for 11 other devices using these services. My two S6 phones worked fine on this WiFi connection the day before the Marshmallow upgrade. I have accomplished multiple tests of my router by dropping all default settings one at a time, and finally creating a DMZ and assigning my phone to that DMZ. None of these resulted in my S6 changing its behavior. I believe some unique configuration of the S6 under Marshmallow is causing this, just have not be able to determine what that is.

gerrym52,
We appreciate all of the troubleshooting you have done. Let's keep working. Are you on a Network Extender when you are attempting to use the Maps? Also, we want to make sure you are in the most current software. I know you mentioned you just did a software update recently. There are times, when developers put out other patches after this. Please go to Settings/System Update. Make sure you are in the most recent version.

I have a network extender that I no longer use. It has not been used for well over a year, I need to return it to Verizon.
As noted in my original post this issue is still effecting 3 separate Samsung S6's. The problem inside Maps started the morning all were updated to Marshmallow. Each phone was running 5.1.1 and were all working find on my WiFi. After the update to 6.01 all 3 stopped being able to search etc on Google Maps. It is clearly some unique issue with the way Marshmallow configured the WiFi network device.

Your battery saver is most likely turned on try turning it off or
Try this settings battery, more, optimize battery usage, click apps not optimized , click all apps now turn off maps.
There is a bug in battery saving feature causing no internet connections problems on wifi
good luck

Tried this just now. No effect. Rebooted my phone just for drill. Checked settings for battery, Maps is still showing 'off' all others 'on'. Again, my Google Maps still will not search when my phone is connected to my WiFi. Error when trying to search says 'Poor Connection' 'Showing Limited Results'. If I turn Wifi off on my phone, Maps search works normal. as soon as I launch it the 'More From Recent History' shows up... which has been my tell tale clue things are working. Thanks for the suggestion though!

Settings > Battery > Power Saving Mode = OFF
Settings > Battery > Ultra Power Saving Mode = OFF
Settings > Battery > More > Optimize battery usage = All OFF
Did I miss one?
No changes in Maps being able to search when on WiFi.

Thanks for the comments, I have 3 S6's here in the family that all perform the same way. None of them had any issues on 5.1.1, they all have a problem on 6.01. So far I've only had this problem on my home router/WiFi, but again... even when on a DMZ the S6 cannot search. I have manually set DNS and tried various other changes. There is a utility called DNSet, theat runs a VPN tunnel. I've only tried it using OpenDNS's public DNS servers and Google's DNS servers, but it works on my WiFi when set either way. I find this promising but will have to sniff some traffic to see what it is that DNSet is actually doing to allow the S6 to function instantly correct. There is SOMETHING amiss in the S6's ethernet configuration for its wireless chip... has to be. What.. that is the question.
