Marshmallow update - now intermittently not receiving texts?

I updated to the "new and improved" Marshmallow update in July and SINCE THEN have not been receiving all text messages. There is no rhyme or reason to who I don't receive them from, what type of phone that user has, or where I am (network availability). This is so frustrating that you pay for "premium service" and receive subpar at best. From what I've read, there are no fixes to this...please, someone tell me I'm wrong!?!
