I recently switched to Verizon and got the Galaxy S4, so far I enjoy the phone except that I can rarely even open the messaging app to text, let alone actually texts anyone from my phone. I have been waiting for a text to send from my phone now for over 30 minutes. Anyone have any ideas? I do not have the time to stop in a store today, so hopefully someone can help out here...

If you are on WiFi and you are trying to send an MMS type message (not SMS), then that is your issue. If you attached a pic or anything else or the message was too long, then the phone converted it to MMS. MMS messages will not send while on WiFi. If the above is the case, wait of the message to fail. Turn off WiFi and long tap on the message and tap resend. This DOES NOT use data, but it is sent over your data connection. If it won't let you resend, you will have to recreate the message. This is a known issue, but there has been no response (that really says anything) from Verizon. It seems to me that if the phone is smart enough to decide that your internet connection is too slow so it switches itself to the data plan, it should be smart enough to make that switch when an MMS message is sent.
Anyway....
Hope this helps,
Benny

BigRedGonzo's suggestion worked after restartng the phone. In my case, I was unable to open MMS messages sent to me while I had Wi-Fi active. Only after turning Wi-Fi off AND restarting the phone was I then able to open the text messages.
Thanks Benny! It helped.
