Msg notification won't disappear

Has anyone ever had a txt msg notification stuck? I've deleted the entire thread, yet my phone still says it has one unread message. I recently switched phones, not sure if this may play a part in this?

crystal_cruz - From my own experience, I certainly know what a nuisance a ghost message notification can be. I welcome the opportunity to assist you with this issue. I just need a few additional details first. Are you using Verizon Messages+ or a different messaging app with your device? After deleting the message thread, did you power the device off and back on to see if the notification would disappear? Was the message thread that was deleted for all messaging conversations or just with one particular person? Let us know. We're here to help.

I'm currently using the Samsung messaging on my phone, not through Verizon messages. I have a notification for only one person, in which I've deleted their entire thread/ history, but I still see one msg notification that appears, dated 12/29/15. I haven't deleted all text message history, I only deleted the history/ thread for this particular person, since it's the only notification that I get.

And once I deleted the thread history I turned the phone off and turned it in again. I've done this more that once, yet the notification of this 'ghost message' continues.

Crystal this must be frustrating, but all is not lost we are here to help.  I recommend that we reset the app.  This will not delete your text but will clear the app preferences.
