Multiple issues with my Fascinate after the 3rd replacement all are the same.

I have been having multiple issues with my fascinate. One notable is that it takes screen shots out of the blue. The other issue is that I have to force close alot of apps. Such as messaging, browser, music player and various others. Another is I have three types of headsets that do not work with the phone for making calls. I Have a stereo headset that has one button on the mic for answering and hanging up call, I have one with just the microphone ( no button ). and one with hang up/answer button and a volume button. All headsets will play music but you cannot talk out of any of them. They all work in other phones including my house phone. Now I went to the vzw store today and they told me that vzw is aware of the problems with the device but they seem to still keep sending you one back for replacement whats up with that. Its like the problem will magically go away with another device. :smileymad:  They also seem to think that if I buy a corded headset that they deem is appropiate hardware for my device it will magically work. I have opened numerous trouble tickets with vzw to get a resolution but i have not gotten anywhere. can someone please direct me to the yellow brick road so that I can go see the wizard and get my problem fixed.

These apps will run and are not required to be closed all the time and if you close are force closing them you may be causing your issues..

Is the headset a official headset from Verizon or a 3rd party headset..  Have you tried pulling the headset plug out a little and push button because I have experience issues with Samsung requiring a proprietary item.

You do realize you can decline to accept the replacement device, I have had devices offered for a number of issues but I wouldnt accept and figured out the solution on my own..

Hi Greendragon,

I am sorry to learn of the issues you are experiencing even after having your device replaced. It sounds like a third party application/accessory conflict. Try running the device in Safe Mode. Safe Mode temporarily disables all applications that have been installed via the Android Market. Performing this troubleshooting step is necessary to determine whether a 3rd party application is the cause of an Operating System / Application issue. If your device runs properly on Safe Mode remove all third party applications and then install one by one to identify the one causing the issue.

With regards to your headset concerns please note that some devices may only work with accessories recommended by your phone's manufacturer. Additionally, if you prefer not to get another phone replacement please contact the manufacturer (if within manufacturer's warranty) online at http://www.samsung.com/us or by phone at 888-987-4357 and they will be able to further assist you with alternative options.

It doesn't surprise me as I feel we are experiencing some software issues that need patches but they are not getting fixed.

Screen shots out of the blue are related to the phantom button press issue. The phone thinks you are holding the back button, even though you are not even touching the screen, and pressing the power button. Usually you hear the camera click and a pop up displaying saying it saved a screen shot. Verizon says they are looking into this issue, but I fear they might not be looking at the whole phantom button issue. I would have to say no matter how many phones they give you eventually all of them will have this problem with 2.2, but if you can get a phone with 2.1 you will not have this problem from my experience.

When you say you are force closing a lot of apps do you mean that during normal usage all the sudden a force close window will display requesting you acknowledge the force close? If so I have seen this under 2.2 for various items. I got rid of the vast majority of my force closes by factory resetting and not installing any apps. Yea its a boring phone, but right now I am trying to figure out other problems. I had a force close the other day for kickback once I enabled it. If you are purposely going in and force closing running apps that's a different story. I have tried safe mode with apps and I still had force close popups myself, but it is a lot easier than factory resetting the phone.

I have a stereo Bluetooth headset. I stream music to it all day and I have answered the occasional phone call with them. I have not testing actually voice calls after my most recent factory reset and will try to do that. Oddly enough I haven't had the headset on when I have gotten a call lately. I have used Dell BH200 stereo headset for music listening and phone conversations. What make and model are the 3 you are using? There a numerous complaints about Bluetooth connections in cars not working also.

Yea they love to send you a magic device instead and I am tired of playing that game also. Sorry I have not found the yellow brick road to freedom with my phone yet.

Greendragon perhaps I can be of some help with the headphone issue, I have a Fascinate that I use my headphones from my former Blackberry, the one with the connect/disconnect button and it works perfectly well with Fascinate, it is a must that you have it fully plugged in since it is longer than a standard headphone. At first I had the same problem you described that it only worked as a media player because I was not fully plugging it in. I tell you this to dispel the notion that the Fascinate only works with a "specific" headphone, this is not true.

In regards to having to force close other apps. my question would be why? Some apps. run in the background after they have been used or accidentally engaged in the process of taking phone in/out of pouch or holder. For example on my phone Bing has a life of it's own, it seems it is always running; I suspect since the search button activates it, the act of going in/out of holder the search key is activating it. No big deal.

Now the screenshot problems has been discussed here quite a bit, if you are certain you are not accidentally holding the back key while pressing the power button then you have a defective phone, it is that simple. Replacement phones are someone elses defective phones, Verizon cannot fully test a phone with a defect that is intermittent in nature, so they have a test routine they perform on returned phones, if it passes this routine they deem the phone to be "good" and put it back on the merry go round to be someone elses problem. I don't know if the Fascinate is currently in production, my guess is: it is not. Therefore you cannot get a new one.

If you are tired of replacements that don't work you must demand from VERIZON a different NEW phone. If you ask you will not receive...you must demand, this is the part where your skills as a negotiator, your will power and stamina will be tested. Do not let anyone tell you that you cannot succeed...that is a lie.  Good luck.
