My LG G4 changes to 1x data when screen off, I have to toggle airplane mode to get 4G

So very often, say 80% of the time, when I grab my phone from off my desk in my SOHO I notice when the screen comes on the phone is in 1x data speed. 100% of the time I can get it back to 4G just by toggling Airplane Mode. If I do not toggle Airplane Mode, sometimes it kicks out of 1x back to 4G and sometimes it does not. If it does, it can take minutes to do so on it's own.

Anyone else with this issue? I have the leather back and got it the day it was released.

Did you use a new SIM or the old one?  Could be an easy fix.

Outside of signal area and the type of network prioritization in your area, I'm not sure.  One might even say it's a battery-saving feature or power requirement Verizon put in place, much like how iPhones turn off wifi when idle and revert to network data.

"or power requirement Verizon put in place" - that helps them, hurts me as it also means - theoretically - I get delayed notifications, texts, emails, data sensitive type transmissions if it goes into 1x. I would not put it past Verizon to do something like this on purpose, but it does not help me. On top of that, not so sure how 1x would be better battery savings than 4G as one 'could' argue it takes more power consumption to try to find and deal with weak 1x signals than staying on solid 4G for the radios on the phone.

Now, barring this I see 2 issues potentially: 1) something is wrong with these phones or this phone if more report this issue and 2) weak signals in my area could play a role. I do not have the best signal strength here in my home (signal strength bars or data speeds) - despite the fact I live in a normal suburban area so I am the prototypical owner from their commercials. I say that as I think it should be better, they might argue otherwise. But, I don't want that to be the defacto reason Verizon would blame on my issue. This is why I reported it here to see if others have this issue as I never saw than in my last Samsung phone in same place, same area, same office, same setup - only change is the phone (and SIM of course).

I will speak from experience here.  I have not read another G4 issue with 1X like yours yet.  I have had 4 different phones by 4 different manufacturers in my home over 4 years.  The last 2 years on 2 different phones I had dwindling service.  Verizon concluded that where I once was in a superb signal area, I was now in a fringe area.  To be clear, I live in XLTE territory half the time and standard LTE bands the other half.  That's when I get LTE, other times its just fast 3G, but since the phone will not work on 3G only network settings, my phone fights between 3G, 4G, and network optimized XLTE.  I live just blocks from the business district of my city's downtown area.

That's an interesting issue that you've pointed out. We're definitely here to assist and further investigate with you. How long have you had the device? Has this been occuring from the very start? I'd suggest powering the phone up in safe mode and testing the data;http://vz.to/1GmNTDd

I'm actually having the same issue - signal dropping from 4GLte to 3G to 1x.  Verizon techs had me do Factory Reset, new SIM card, and other adjustments to settings - still no luck.  I have to toggle Airplane Mode to get 4GLte enabled, but last for a few minutes.

I have the Samsung S6 Edge.  This issue may have started about 3 weeks ago.  I work in DC and this issue also occurs.

I understand how frustrating it can be when you experience difficulties with your device Roger301. I understand you have the Samsung S6 Edge. When did signal start dropping to 1X. Are you using the new SIM card that came with the Samsung S6 Edge. Do you experince loss of signal when you are indoors only or both indoors and outdoors?

Thank You,

The issue started about 4 weeks ago.  I went to the Verizon store and replaced the SIM card.  Issue occurs both indoors and outdoors.

I've started a new thread in the 4G LTE forum named "4G LTE issue in the DC area" - so I do not hijack Lock-N-Load's discussion.
