Will my sons nexus sim card, currently Verizon, work in an unlocked and refurbished S3

The SIM, if currently a Verizon SIM could work in another phone, question is, is that S3 a Verizon phone?  Verizon may not allow it on the network if it isn't, and if they do, it may not be compatible with all services.
