Can anyone provide me some feedback, good or bad, on the S4? Looking into buying one for a friend. I have a Droid RAZR HD and its the bomb! Thanks!
it's one of the highest rated androids on the market. i don't have one, but my wife and son have an s3 and i have a note II. all GREAT phones.
Disclaimer: I have the T-Mobile version of the S4, used on HSPA+, not LTE. I am not sure how different the VzW version will prove to be.
The Galaxy S4 is a great phone... once you go into settings and disable all the bloat. Both samsung and carrier bloat. All the eye-tracking? disabled. All the hand-waving stuff? disabled. All the "bonus" apps, samsung media garbage, etc? Disabled.
With all that garbage turned on, the phone is annoying and slow, with awful battery life. The "noise reduction" renders phone calls nearly unusable.
With it all turned off, the phone is wonderful and fast and battery life is awesome. Calls are clear
The screen is gorgeous, the phone is insanely powerful, the camera is GREAT.
Basically, it requires way more out-of-the-box setup to make great than it should, but it's a fantastic phone overall once that setup is completed.

Can you please list all the Samsung bloatware and the eye/hand waving stuff you disabled? I'm interested in how much "junk" can be shut off on the S4.
To each his/her own...I rather like some of the eye/hand gesture features and don't consider them junk or bloatware.
I haven't decided how much I would leave enabled. I'm more curious to what Jax considered worth turning off. The 20+ applications already disabled have already improved the background data usage from the applications that hadn't even been opened and were already leaking data.
Hi Pafhawks, You are asking a great question! The Samsung S4 is one of the hottest phones on the market right now. I personally think it is an awesome phone. I would say my favorite features are the screen size and the camera. The 5 inch screen is not too big and not too small. The 13 megapixel camera is another great feature for those who love to take pics.
