No call audio on GS4, can only use speaker phone

I have a new GS4, only 2 days activated, and the call audio has gone out. It happened in the middle of a call the first day I had the phone. I switched to speaker phone which works fine, but now I can only make calls on speaker phone. When I try to to switch a call off of speaker, I can be heard speaking but cannot hear anything on my end. I have checked the speaker volume which is high and mute, which is off, but they don't seem to be the problem. I've restarted the phone but didn't seem to help at all.

A couple times in attempting to call, I got a bit of static that cut in and out, like the speaker worked for a second than cut out, but most of the time it is complete silence.

Please help!

Thank you for this information, Kimdirect. I'm really sorry to hear about the issues you are experiencing with your S4's speaker. That should definitely not be happening.

I recommend clearing the cache and data on the phone app, (Settings>More>App Manager>All>Phone>Clear Cache/Data) and worse case scenario, a master reset to rule out software issues with the phone.

If you are still under the 14 day Worry Free Guarantee, and you have done all of the above, return your phone for an exchange, as that is not normal. If you are past that, your phone is covered under warranty, as long as there is no Physical, water/moisture damage.
