My phone updated last night apparently and I have new text messages this morning, but I can't open them. It says that the application has stopped unexpectedly everytime. I tried restarting my phone and it doesn't work. Any suggestions?

Let's get to the bottom of your text messaging issue and get you back up and running. Before we get into clearing program caches, or even master resets, there are a few things we need you to try. We also need some clarification on the details of your issue. Is it all text messages that you can't open or just the ones from that morning? Are you using the stock text messaging application or an application downloaded from the Market. Please try the below steps:
1) Pull out the battery from your phone.
2) Remove any messaging applications you may have downloaded on the device (if applicable).
3) Retest.
If the above 3 steps don't work, the next step would be to clear the cache on the text messaging or messages application. Settings> Applications> Manage Applications> All> Text Messaging/Messages> Clear Cache/Clear Data/Force Stop> Retest. Warning: This may cause your email accounts to erase and all text messages to erase as well. The final step in the troubleshooting process is a factory reset. Ensure any pertinent data is backed up prior to completing a master reset.
