I'm looking for answers here. So far I have no viable response from Samsung or Verizon. Description of issue: Someone sends me an email. I reply on that email thread.
I go to my 'sent' folder if I need to recall a conversation in an email concerning a particular subject or I want to send it to my Outlook.
I open the email that I sent a reply and look for the thread of the conversation.
There is no thread.
Just my response.
I have never had a phone that performed like this.
I prefer it performs more the way I need it to. Is that possible? Or am I stuck?
I don't feel I need to have to get some other kind of email app just to make it work.
I go through a pop3 server with my email.
Other phones I have don't have this kind of issue.
My gmail doesn't have this issue.
My Outlook doesn't have this issue.
Any ideas?
Thanks,

The gmail app does do this (they are shrunk down above any unread messages in the thread when you open the latest one), the other email app, not so much. There should be a setting to include the body of the previous email when replying, but this can make for some rather long emails. You may not feel the need to go with a different email app, but that may be your only option.

I realize that the gmail account shrinks them down and it also gives you the option to open up the thread.
However I am not using a gmail account as my default email on Galaxy Nexus. It is going through godaddy. I have had the same godaddy account for years and have made it default on other phones with no issue. Its only since I've gotten this phone. The only answer I got was that some phones do this and some phones don't. I cannot accept an answer like that.
The other answer after I explained I use it for business is that the Galaxy wasn't a business phone type of product. I don't buy that either. Has nothing to do with how the email performs. It seems to point to the native email program on the phone itself. Again though............I am open to solutions that work.
Thanks.

Open email app and goto the account you want to change and click Menu / Options / Send and Receive (Menu may differ) and there is a option that says "Reply with Original Text" and I believe this should do what you are looking for.. Another option that may help is the "always BBC Me" option to send you a copy...

Unfortunately Galaxy Nexus does not have those type of settings. It doesn't have that much end user control to it.

I'll take a look. Just aggravating I have to go to a 3rd party email to make it work right. Thanks

Understandable but until a solution comes to light it is a guessing game to resolve.

Sadly it works as intented so it is working right. Most people honestly don't like it threaded. Some of the complaints about email disappearing is due to threaded messages. Personally I prefer threaded myself, but the I see it... Google is trying to move everyone to their services. They have added features which are not in the basic email app. Gives some incentive to most users to move over or find a 3rd party app to fit their needs. At least you are not being blocked of choices.

I understand what you are saying but I can't categorize myself as "most people". Google's g mail at least gives a person the option to hide the thread or to see the thread. I believe it would be more worthwhile to give the user the option to what they want not dictate what they'll get. I don't use gmail as my default on my phone and have the stock email directed towards another email. It concerns having a business email. I can't accept an answer from Google that at best is telling, "tough, deal with it". At least that's what it seems like. I'm not trying to be hard but it would be so much appreciated to hear a solution other than I have to use a 3rd party email client or get some other app in order to make it work. Can't we take the approach, "ok.....let's make it work!", instead of, "we're trying to make you change the way you do it by not offering it"?
I don't typically complain about things but as I have to do business and keeping accountability is a must concerning communications I don't want to make my primary job sifting through emails to keep trains of thought together. Also, I like to keep my phone "clean" as I call it by not adding all kinds of extra apps that tend to bog down the system with the potential to corrupt basic o/s over time. Am I making sense? Thanks again though.

Here is why that incentive isn't always noteworthy.
When it comes to business sometimes email's must go through their server. I don't always have a choice.

When you say that you have other phones that work this way, what other phones do you have? Are they other Android Phones, or would they be Blackberry phones?
I understand why you would want to thread the messages, and your right, the default non gmail email app could be more robust than what it is.

Ok... the blackberry and other android phone were programmed to do email threading. That was added by the skin of the manufacturer to extend the functionality of the email app.
The only way to get the threading is to use another app, or to get a different android phone. I know that is not the answer that you wanted, but those are the only options at this point in time.

You are correct on all points in your response. I appreciate the effort to help me solve this issue. The only thing that I have been able to do is point out my disgruntlement to Verizon and Samsung and in Google Groups about the items I find issue with concerning ICS. I get the impression that ICS is still in a development stage of understanding. There has been different levels of understanding how the functions on the device works from various ppl that I have spoken to. I'm at a loss for words.
thanks.

Unfortunately, we cannot get everything we want in an OS. There are a few items I wish that ICS had, but I have found workarounds for everything I did in the past so far.
A couple of things I miss from my Droid X
- News Reader - Motorola had a nice RSS News Reader that would show only the new items in the widget. Once you got through all the new stuff, you could go back to the older stuff, but if you just wanted to see the new items, the widget was nice. Google puts out a nice RSS News Reader, but the flipcard widget does not show only the new items, it shows all items from X amount of days. There is no way to configure it to show only the new items. They have another widget to show how many new items, but it only looks like a folder with a number in the folder.
- Number of Home Screens - I got used to 7 home screens on the X, with ICS there is only 5 with no expansion that I could find. I am now used to the 5 screens, but 7 would be nice to have back again.
- Quick move between home screens - The X on Gingerbread could move quickly from home home screen to another by swiping your finger from the bottom towards the top. Then it would show you all the home screens, where you could pick one, thus moving quickly between screens. ICS does not have that feature.
- Notification Menu - I could pull down the notification menu while on a phone call on the X, but cannot on ICS. That way I could go back to my Car Home screen to show my speed and heading while on a phone call.
Like I said, I miss these items, but still love ICS and do not want to go back to Motorola's 'Blur' skin. ICS runs a lot better, quicker, and cleaner than my X ever did.
Have a good day, and hope you find a solution that works well for you.
