Not able to send texts at all on new S4

I just received my new Galaxy S4 and I am unable to send texts messages at all. I tried rebooting, clearing my messaging cache and everything else on the phone is connecting (web, phone, facebook, etc). Any suggestions?

We'll figure out this mystery so that you can enjoy your new Galaxy S4. Are you receiving any errors when sending? Is this happening with all numbers you try to text? Try sending yourself a text message and see if you have the same results.

I'm also running into the same problem. I've had my new S4 for almost two weeks. Today just started getting failed sent messages. Failed when sending to two different contacts. Wonder if I'm not receiving either. About a week ago trying to coordinate a meeting place with a friend. We met and she showed me her phone she just sent me a text, "here." A week later I still have not received that message from her.

Just sent myself a text and got a failed message.

I too am having this problem.  I cannot send texts; first noticed today 10/29; last text successfully sent 10/28 6:37pm.

Over the weekend I got a S4 update from Verizon.

I have tried to send to different people and get "failed" message. I have received a text message from one of these people.

When sending a text message that fails: Button with red "!" appears to left of message and "failed" appears under message in lower right corner.  Message bubble is gray (normally appears blue). When "!" button is pushed it tries to resend and fails again.

Have tried sending message to self and this fails too.

Have had this S4 since August and it worked properly. Never had an iphone.

Please advise

Hi Ncpw,

Let's troubleshoot this messaging issue! First please reprogram your phone by removing SIM card http://vz.to/11uvxaj for one minute, then reinsert and test. What messaging application are you using? If a third party application, please delete and then test messaging with the stock messaging application. If issues continue, please download the Verizon Messages application http://bit.ly/13rcZfv and test. Keep us posted.

I have the identical problem with a new S4 I just bought today. It is frustrating, especially when my wife bought one too and hers texts fine! I have tried the troubleshooting steps listed on another verizon page, clear down to the hard reset, to no avail. I have tried your recommendations to remove and replace the SIM card,  and then downloaded the Verizon Messages application, but it too fails to send texts for me. Any more ideas?

I am having the same problem after replacing my sim card with one of the new NFC sim cards.  Also, in My Verizon, it doesn't show that my phone is a Galaxy S4.

I want those messages to keep flowing Duke2106! Have you tried testing the previous SIM card or reseating the current one? How about a battery pull? What messaging app are you using? Do you have any difficulties with calls?

My wife and I both got new S4's on Dec 16th. Very next day, hers stopped sending text (sms)  It would receive just fine.  Crazy thing though, it will send picture text (mms)  Go figure!  I have tried the soft boot, removing battery and SIM card, and have also done a factory reset, all to no avail. There is one anomaly that I have found that I cannont find and answer to that I would like the Verizon Tech guys to look into. My sister, my wife, and myself all have S4's. Mine is Black mist 16GB, theirs are both Arctic Blue 16GB. The Hardware Version on mine phone and my sisters phone is I545.06. The Hardware Version on my wifes phone is I545.07.....and thats the phone with the problem.  I have found reference to I545.06 all over the internet, I however, can not find a single item that relates to I545.07.  What is I545.07 Hardware version?     FYI  We both upgraded to the newest baseband version release, I545VRUEMK2, and our Kernel Version and Build number are both the same. Any info or help would be greatly appreciated!

Same issue here, had phone for about 3 weeks, just ran an update and now no texts are being sent in the standard messaging service. Assume it has something to do with the latest update from today?

tojg49ers,                                                          tojg49ers, we don't want this to be a problem for you too. Did you download a 3rd party text messaging application from Google play market? Application software can affect the performance of your text messaging feature. Try deleting all unwanted text messages on your device and power it off/on to soft reset. Keep us posted.

Good afternoon Spag300,

Let's dive right in to help resolve this concern for you. Is this effecting you from receiving any text messages? Are you getting any particular error messages when sending a text?

Try to send yourself a text message to see if it goes through. This way we can test the send and receive all in one step. In the meantime I would also recommend downloading the VZ Messages application on your device to test out the text messaging service there and be sure you are able to send and receive them through this application.

Let me know if this helps?
